The Asian Senior Concerns Foundation is a nonprofit organization established in 2001 in Seattle, Washington, founded by physicians, lawyers, accountants, engineers, and scholars from Taiwan. The foundation works to plan and provide resources for Asian Americans approaching or in retirement, helping them enjoy a secure, comfortable, healthy, and happy later life. It combines governmental and community resources to serve the senior Asian American population. Members volunteer their time outside of busy professional careers to research and share information on financial security, suitable housing, physical health, and peace of mind for elderly Asian Americans. The foundation’s long-term vision includes building a service network and retirement community suited to the needs of Asian seniors.
Role in the Community
- Recorded in the TAH community directory entry 48. Asian Senior Concerns Foundation 亞裔銀髮族關懷基金會(西雅圖) (published 2017-04-04, value band B), which documents the Seattle (西雅圖) chapter of the foundation.
- Adjacent in the same senior-services cluster of the TAH directory: Happy Club 精精俱樂部.
- Founder’s own account: Dr. 陳一仁’s essay 2017-04 (value band A) describes founding the foundation with a group of volunteers in spring 2002, starting with weekly Saturday lectures plus tai-chi/qigong classes at a rented community center, then a joint health-lecture day with a local hospital (2003) and a large health fair with several Mandarin-speaking physicians that drew hundreds from the community.
- Growth recorded in the same founder memoir: by 2004 volunteers and participants kept increasing, members donated to lease a fixed gathering venue and donated furniture themselves, and the Saturday program standardized into themed weeks (birthday/经验分享, medical, social-welfare, travel/personal topics, financial planning) alongside full-day classes (computer, line dance, tai-chi, qigong, ballroom, calligraphy, ink painting, photography, chess, mahjong). The foundation also ran structured health self-management courses — chronic-disease and diabetes self-management, fall-prevention/balance, emergency preparedness, and senior safe-driving — coordinated with local social-welfare and public-health agencies, and grew into a respected local Asian-American and diaspora community group.
- HOLD: founding-year conflict — directory snapshot says established 2001; founder 陳一仁’s memoir says spring 2002. Not auto-merged; needs owner confirmation.
