The Chhong-bi Memorial Fund was established in April 1993 in memory of a selfless Taiwanese woman who, along with her physician husband, served the poor in Nepal for over a decade as part of a Japanese overseas medical mission, and anonymously donated monthly to the Taiwan Independence League’s publication ‘Taiwan Youth’ for over ten years. The fund is dedicated to carrying on her spirit of devotion to Taiwan and promoting Taiwanese language and culture. The fund views the written form of the Taiwanese language as the core of new Taiwanese culture and has worked for over twenty years to cultivate, promote, and sustain it against the pressure of dominant language hegemonies.

Major Projects (from TAH directory entry)

• Tai-bun Thong-sin (台文通訊) — managed the Taiwanese-language newsletter, issues 25–142 (November 1993 to January 2006).
• Taiwan Youth digitization — digitized all 500 issues of the Taiwan Independence League‘s magazine ‘Taiwan Youth’.
• Taigi translation anthology — published a Taiwanese-language translation anthology including coverage of the 228 Incident.
• Website — operates a site with four major sections: Tai-bun Thong-sin, Taiwan Youth, a Taiwan forum, and a Taiwanese-language living seminar.
