Hsu Ling-yun Xiucai Memorial Hall (許凌雲秀才紀念館)
The Hsu Ling-yun Xiucai Memorial Hall (許凌雲秀才紀念館; also 存養軒書房) is the former home and village school of |Hsu Ling-yun (許凌雲), a Qing xiucai and early Penghu Presbyterian educator. It stands at Watong Village No. 51, Baisha Township, Penghu (884). Penghu County registered it as a commemorative building (紀念性建築) in 2022.

The Commemorated Person
Per his vault page, |Hsu Ling-yun (名漢厚，字凌雲，號卓夫; 1862–1944) is treated in the 續修澎湖縣志 as Penghu’s last Qing xiucai (top of the Penghu ting list in 1893). He taught at village sishu in Watong, Dachikan and Magong, then served roughly 18 years as a Han-learning teacher for the Tainan Presbyterian Church (|PCT), having embraced Christianity together with his brother 許漢墩 in 1892. The house therefore documents both his Confucian and Presbyterian layers — the door couplet 上聯「聖道教人時雨化」／下聯「福音牖世春風生」 fuses 聖道 and 福音 in one line. Surviving academy essays from his 1894 Magong teaching period (first-place 〈乘桴浮于海〉 and others) are quoted on his person page. Singer |Hsu Ching-chun (許景淳) is recorded as 靖樂-lineage 11th generation of the same Watong Hsu clan, but is not shown as Ling-yun’s child line.

Neighbors report postwar roof work; the main hall and side rooms keep original walls and beams. The three-bay six-panel hall door is uncommon in Penghu. Before a bridge linked Watong and Magong, mail and goods for the village were said to be sorted at this house.
Descendant Hsu Ya-chin (許雅琴) led the heritage application (reviewed Mar 2023 in some news reports; county announcement 2022). The hall has hosted later cultural programs (e.g. ukulele workshops, 2025).
