The New Orleans Taiwanese Association (紐奧良 台灣同鄉會) is a regional chapter of the Taiwanese Association of America (TAA, 全美台灣同鄉會), the national umbrella organization for Taiwanese American community associations in the United States. The chapter serves the Taiwanese American community in the New Orleans, Louisiana area and is listed under the TAA’s Southern (美南) regional grouping.

Role in the Community

  • New Orleans is named among the cities of the TAA Southern (美南) region whose associations coordinated the rotating Southern Taiwanese American Summer Conference (美南台灣人夏令會) from its first edition in Houston in 1984 onward. See Our Journeys 318 — 美南夏令會.

  • When Hurricane Katrina struck New Orleans on 2005-08-29, Taiwanese American associations nationwide — including the community’s relief network — mounted donation and relief campaigns for the city. See Hurricane Katrina — New Orleans relief record.

  • The national TAA (全美會) donated consolation funds (慰問金) specifically to New Orleans Taiwanese families affected by Katrina — the chapter’s community appears in the record as disaster recipients of the nationwide network’s relief drive. See 全美會捐贈慰問金給紐奧良台灣同鄉卡翠娜受災戶.

  • Chapter members reach into neighboring-community records: at the 2002 Houston Taiwanese Activity Center inauguration, a New Orleans group led by 施利雄 (十餘人) performed an indigenous-form dance (山地舞) in the variety program. See Our Journeys 233 — 休士頓台灣人活動中心.

  • Dedicated community record: Taiwanese Association of New Orleans 紐奧良台灣同鄉會 (2015-11-18).

  • The Katrina relief drive for New Orleans families was nationwide: other chapters’ memoirs record it among the disasters their own associations raised funds for — e.g. the NY-Capital district record 2024) and 2017) both list Katrina/紐奧良 first among their disaster-relief campaigns, confirming the chapter’s recipient role within the national network.

  • First-person survivor testimony of the Katrina displacement from a New Orleans-based Taiwanese graduate student: evacuating with family to Houston on the city’s shutdown announcement, being helped by Taiwanese sojourners, churches, and the Taipei Economic and Cultural representative network there, and returning to teach in New Orleans a decade later — a ground-level counterpart to the chapter-level relief record (2016).

  • Parallel institutional record in the city: the Taiwan Chamber of Commerce of New Orleans (紐奧良台灣商會) is documented separately (19. Taiwan Chamber of Commerce of New Orleans 紐奧良台灣商會, 2016-05-06, bibliographic only).

  • HOLD: the corpus does not record a founding date or officer roster for the chapter; the 2015 work page is bibliographic only (full text stays in the vault).
