Identity Snapshot

  • English: North America Taiwanese Women’s Association – Northern California Chapter
  • Chinese: 北美洲台灣婦女會北加分會
  • Era: Contemporary
  • Geography: Taiwanese American community
  • Core roles: Community organization (TAH directory)

North America Taiwanese Women’s Association – Northern California Chapter is a local chapter of the North America Taiwanese Women’s Association (NATWA), serving the Northern California area.

Role in the Community

  • The TAH directory corpus carries a dedicated chapter record: NATWA 北美洲台灣婦女會北加分會 (catalogued 2015-12-21, bibliographic record only).
  • Chapter-authored publication: 1995 — a 1995 Taiwanese-cuisine collection produced by the chapter itself (catalogued 2015-04-19), its earliest chapter-attributed activity record in the corpus.
  • Parent body NATWA (founded March 1988, Los Angeles) is organised into five geographic regions with sixteen chapters across the US and Canada; nationally it is recorded as the Taiwanese American group with the most activity projects and the most members (239. NATWA 活動項目最多的全國性台美團體, 240. NATWA 會員最多的全國性台美團體). Chapter networking ran through the 聯誼通訊 newsletter (06, 01, 08, 08).
  • Chapter-level presence in the 2021 movement response to Pew Research Center’s merging of Taiwanese data into “Chinese”: the statement published by taiwaneseamerican.org (2021-05-01, band A) lists a signer as “Isabel Kao NATWA-NCA (North American Taiwanese Women’s Association – Northern California Chapter)” — an event-level record naming the chapter itself: Response to Pew Research Reports Hiding Taiwanese Identity.
  • HOLD: the only chapter-attributed publication records are the dedicated directory record and the 1995 懷念的台灣菜 publication; beyond the 2021 Pew statement signature above, chapter-level history stays unasserted (no further event-level corpus records name the 北加 chapter).
