Identity Snapshot
- English: Sogetsu BuxMont Study Group
- Chinese: —
- Era: Contemporary
- Geography: Taiwanese American community
- Core roles: Community organization (TAH directory)
The Sogetsu BuxMont Study Group is a community of Sogetsu Ikebana teachers and students based in the Greater Philadelphia area, primarily serving members in Bucks County and Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. The group was established in May 2016 by Ms. Meei-huey Lin, a Taiwan native whose passion for Ikebana was inspired by her mother and who has taught Ikebana classes since 2004. The group actively participates in flower arrangement exhibitions across the region, including the Philadelphia Flower Show, local church exhibits, and the Taiwanese-American East Coast Conference. Through these exhibitions, the group showcases the creativity and talents of its members while advancing the art of Ikebana in the Taiwanese American and broader community.
Role in the Community
The group’s own community-history record is held in the vault at Sogetsu BuxMont Study Group (TAH story corpus, 2017-07-31), filed in the TAH story corpus index alongside other 2017 community records. The record documents the group as an Ikebana teaching community contributing to Taiwanese American cultural exhibits — including the Taiwanese-American East Coast Conference (TAC/EC) — rather than a movement-political organization.
The founder appears by her Chinese name 林美惠 in three TAC/EC memoirs (romanization Meei-huey ↔ 美惠, Sogetsu/Philadelphia/Flower Show profile consistent; identity inferred, not yet owner-confirmed):
- [[works/taiwaneseamericanhistory-org/ourjourneys159|Our Journeys #159 (TAC/EC 台灣之夜)]]: 林美惠老師和學生主持插花示範及展覽; she had taught in Philadelphia for years, several students earned formal Ikebana teaching licenses, and their representative works appeared annually at the Philadelphia Flower Show. She led a workshop for 17 participants explaining 草月流 principles (天地人合諧的意境).
- [[works/taiwaneseamericanhistory-org/ourjourneys153|Our Journeys #153 (TAC/EC 2015 心聯故鄉)]]: 林美惠師生花展 opened at 科技大樓 with 20+ titled works — students 吳雪容「小城故事」, 杜智惠「花燃」, 陳月娟, 陳玲珠; 林美惠’s own piece「霸王妖姫」(蒼松、滿天星、菊花、粉紅蘭花 — yang/yin contrast).
- [[works/taiwaneseamericanhistory-org/ourjourneys260|Our Journeys #260 (第45屆 TAC/EC)]]: 「林美惠師生們主辦的『草月流』插花展覽, 給大會添上迷人的采色」.
Together these memoirs corroborate the group’s profile: a teaching lineage (teacher → licensed students) that has sustained a recurring cultural presence at TAC/EC and the Philadelphia Flower Show since at least 2015, predating the group’s formal 2016 founding.
The presence continued after the TAC/EC 2015–2017 records above: 楊遠薰’s TAC/EC 2017 report notes 林美惠老師’s flower-arrangement demonstration (花藝示範) as an afternoon program item at the 2017 美東台灣人夏令會 hosted by the Washington Taiwanese community (TAC/EC 四百餘人) — TJJ 報導, 2017-07-09; the photo-caption edition of the same report («下午場的節目之一:林美惠老師花藝示範» — 2017 TAC/EC hosted by the Washington Taiwanese community, 動員鄉親八、九十人, TAC/EC 四百餘人) is preserved at TJJ 2017 美東台灣人夏令會報導(圖文版).
Re-check (slice deepen-x-slice-09211300-11, 2026-09-22): re-grep Sogetsu / 草月 / 林美惠 / Meei-huey — remaining hits are the records already linked above plus [[works/taiwaneseamericanhistory-org/ourjourneys298|Our Journeys #298]], whose 草月 mention is HTISC Houston’s ikebana curriculum (副院長 LaVerl Daily 執教; 池坊/草月/小原流 teachers 陳由美、張淑貞) — a different region and unrelated teachers, not this Bucks/Montgomery group. No further absorbable material.
Re-check (slice deepen-x-slice-09220800-2, 2026-09-22): fresh grep Sogetsu / 草月 / buxmont across works+articles returns the same hit set (the group’s own record, 260, #298 HTISC false-positive, index) — all already absorbed or excluded above. Nothing new absorbable. SKIP-no-new-material.
