The Taiwanese American Scholarship Fund (TASF) was created in 2014 to support economically challenged students of Taiwanese descent residing in the United States in their pursuit of higher education. Through a competitive application process, scholarship funds are applied toward tuition for selected students in their first or second year of college. TASF serves as a financial resource for Taiwanese American students facing economic barriers to higher education.

Timeline

  • 2014 — TASF created amid a broader community-scholarship wave: 黃東昇’s Our Journeys 303 retrospective records that between 2003 and 2017 fourteen regions across the US ran 台美社區高中生獎學金 programs by local Taiwanese groups, with nearly a thousand high-school recipients before most programs faded due to leadership and funding turnover; TASF continued that mission at national scale (2017).
  • 2015 — first campaign covered by TaiwaneseAmerican.org and the TAH directory; TASF ran as a project of the Asian Pacific Community Fund; the 2015 drive advertised $35,000 in awards (TA.org 2015 drive; [[works/taiwaneseamericanhistory-org/taiwanese-american-scholarship-fund|TAH #15]]). The fund is described in the corpus as made possible by a group of Taiwanese American philanthropists spearheaded by Sean Yu (余崇孝).
  • 2016 — drive of $50,000: twenty $2,500 scholarships for high-school seniors and 1st-year students who are U.S. citizens of direct Taiwanese descent, deadline 2016-02-29 (TA.org 2016 drive).
  • 2017-02-16 — the annual drive again ran as a project of the Asian Pacific Community Fund, targeted at economically-challenged students of Taiwanese descent in their first or second year of college, covered by TA.org as community record (TA.org 2017 drive).
  • 2017-01-04 — scholarship awards notice ([[works/taiwaneseamericanhistory-org/awards-taiwanese-american-scholarship-fund|TAH #73]]).
  • 2020-03-07 — TASF Scholarship record ([[works/taiwaneseamericanhistory-org/50-tasf-scholarship-2020|TAH #50]]).
  • 2024-02-25 — the 2024 drive opened for applications: ten awards of US$7,500 each for economically disadvantaged U.S. high-school graduates or first-year college students entering in fall 2024, GPA 3.0+, deadline 2024-04-15; TJJ carried the notice, restating TASF’s 2014 founding mission to support U.S. Taiwanese-descent students’ access to higher education (TJJ, 2024-02-25; reposted 2025-02-10 as a 2024-cycle notice, TJJ, 2025-02-10).
