Role in the Community
-
2010 — UCSD campus documented as an active Taiwanese student node. Ho Chie’s year-in-review lists the ITASA conference at UCSD among his 2010 campus stops, and separately records a southern-California TACL-LID summer camp comeback organized by UCSD-area student leaders preparing for the next West Coast ITASA conference at UC San Diego (On Discovering Passion & Purpose, 2010-11-11).
-
2010-03-19 — member testimony on chapter scale. In the band-A interview “Girl Power Leading the Way for Taiwanese American Collegiate Conferences!” (Ho Chie), a UCSD TASA member states the chapter had shown tremendous growth and had “probably become the biggest Asian American student organization on campus,” that it attended the Stanford and USC ITASA conferences with the largest delegation of any university — including an 11-hour charter bus ride with 60 UCSD TASA members to Stanford — and that UCSD was the natural next host of the ITASA conference (Girl Power Leading the Way for Taiwanese American Collegiate Conferences!, 2010-03-19).
-
2012-05-05 — the chapter’s own documented activity: a “Mr. & Ms. Formosa Culture Pageant Presented by UCSD TASA” is recorded in the community corpus (Mr. & Ms. Formosa Culture Pageant, 2012-05-05) — a cultural pageant presented directly by UCSD TASA.
-
Beyond the chapter itself, the corpus establishes UCSD as a node of Taiwanese-American institutional life: UCSD received a $5M gift to found an interdisciplinary Center of Taiwan Studies in 2023 (386. UCSD獲500萬成立台灣研究中心跨學科合作; founding director’s year-end review in 390. 2023 in Review: UCSD Center of Taiwan Studies), and the Chuan Lyu Endowed Chair in Taiwan Studies (川流台灣研究講座基金) is recorded at UCSD (Chuan Lyu Endowed Chair). UCSD also hosted early TACF (Taiwanese Christian Fellowship) summer-camp site contracts per the movement memoir (Our Journeys 265).
-
2010 — UCSD TASA named in the camp-return leadership circle. The TACL-LID comeback camp write-up records Erica Ling as one of the organizers of the following year’s West Coast ITASA conference at UC San Diego, alongside southern-California student leaders from the newly formed UCI Taiwanese American Organization — direct first-hand documentation of the UCSD chapter’s role in the 2011 West Coast conference pipeline (The Return of TACL-LID, taiwaneseamerican.org).
