The Taiwanese Association of America Las Vegas (TAALV, 拉斯維加斯 台灣同鄉會) is the Las Vegas, Nevada chapter of the Taiwanese Association of America (全美台灣同鄉會), the national umbrella organization serving Taiwanese American communities across the United States. The chapter connects Taiwanese Americans and Taiwanese-heritage residents in the greater Las Vegas area and operates as part of the TAA’s Western region network.

Timeline / Role in the Community

  • TAA maintains a dedicated chapter page in the TAH archive: Taiwanese Association Of America Las Vegas Chapter 全美台灣同鄉會拉斯維加斯分會 (2015-11-29) — confirming the chapter’s formal standing within TAA.

  • Neighboring community institution in Las Vegas: [[works/taiwaneseamericanhistory-org/taiwanese-american-chamber-of-commerce-of-las-vegas|TAH #14 拉斯維加斯台灣商會 (Taiwanese American Chamber of Commerce of Las Vegas)]].

  • In the TAC-WC (Taiwanese American Conference – West Coast) regional structure formed 2017, Las Vegas is grouped with Salt Lake City as one of the five regions; its board director was Jim Wang (王進賢), and the 2019 TAC-WC rotated through Salt Lake City–Las Vegas (per 黃東昇’s memoir [[works/taiwaneseamericanhistory-org/ourjourneys352|TAH #352]], 2020).

  • Wider Vegas-area community activity: the North American Taiwanese Medical Association held its 2016 annual convention in Las Vegas, 10/21–23 ([[works/taiwaneseamericanhistory-org/important2016-25|TAH #25]]).

  • Founding-era record: TAH #321 documents the chapter as of 06/2007 as “The youngest Taiwanese American association” (全美台灣同鄉會拉斯維加斯分會) ([[works/taiwaneseamericanhistory-org/ff321|TAH #321]], 2007-06) — placing the chapter’s founding among the newest wave of TAA chapters.

  • In December 2016 the Vegas chapter’s community scene hosted the TPC (南加州台灣人基督長老教會聯合會) “The Voices of Christmas 聖誕之聲” concert, whose tour included a Las Vegas, NV performance on 12/17/2016 ([[works/taiwaneseamericanhistory-org/concerts83|TAH #83 聖誕之聲 Las Vegas]]), alongside the NATMA annual convention earlier that October — evidence of an active broader Taiwanese-heritage community in the area.

  • Community-pressure episode recorded in the 世台會 corpus: after the 世台會 third annual convention, a dissenting group of attendees reportedly left before it ended, going to Chinatown and then on a 「建功宴」 trip to Las Vegas, paid with membership dues — a grievance documented in the convention report (2017).

  • Taiwanese-heritage institutional footprint in Vegas: the corpus holds a record of the Taiwanese American Presbyterian Church of Las Vegas 台美基督長老教會 (Taiwanese American Presbyterian Church of Las Vegas, 2016-05-12) — a second Vegas-area Taiwanese community institution alongside the chamber and the TAA chapter.

  • Demographic context for the Vegas Taiwanese community: 中西部台灣人夏令會’s own history attributes the Midwest movement’s decline partly to retirees relocating to warmer regions including Nevada (Las Vegas) (2021, 2021) — i.e. the Vegas-area population partially grew from older movement veterans.

  • 2022 note recorded in the corpus: the shooter in the Irvine 台灣基督長老教會 attack (1死5傷, Dr. John Cheng killed) was reported as coming from Las Vegas — David Chou, described as politically motivated and hostile to the Taiwanese community (2022, 2022; coverage also in 台灣公義日報 coverage). Recorded as external fact affecting how the Vegas community was perceived; no organizational link to the chapter is claimed.
