The chapter serves the Taiwanese American community in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Role in the Community
- Founding chapter. The Cincinnati chapter is named among the 28 founding chapters of the Taiwanese Association of America in Mu-Sheng Wu’s TAA history, with J. Y. Lin 林哲也 listed as the chapter’s president at founding — see Mu-Sheng Wu (2014-12-21, band A oral/community history; the ZH edition 76. 全美台灣同鄉會 gives the chapter president’s Chinese name 林哲也).
- Early international outreach. The chapter was the first T.A. organization to participate in a local International Festival, in 1976 — 1976.
- Community facility. The chapter’s base is documented as the Cincinnati Taiwanese Center 辛辛那提台灣會館 — Cincinnati Taiwanese Center 辛辛那提台灣會館 (2016-08-25); a longer institutional history is in Ohio and Taiwanese Culture Center of America (2018-07-23).
- First TAA chapter with its own clubhouse. The chapter is recorded as the first TAA chapter to own a clubhouse — 1990. The chapter’s own clubhouse-inauguration memoir recounts that an earlier attempt failed in 1985 under president 林瑞陽, who toured a house near the University of Cincinnati (辛城大學) that fell through for various difficulties; fellow member 高惠陽 later published a proposal in the chapter newsletter (鄉訊) to keep the idea alive, and the speaker at the opening ceremony stressed the clubhouse was 「全美國第一間屬於同鄉會的會館」 — Our Journeys 293 辛辛那提台灣同鄉會會館開幕 (opening-group photos dated Cincinnati, OH/1995, provided by 鄭憲章 10/2017).
- HOLD: clubhouse founding date conflict — TAH #304 titles it 1990, while the inauguration memoir’s photos are dated 1995; held, not merged.
- Archives/culture. Cincinnati hosted the 全美台灣文物資料中心 (Taiwanese Culture Center of America), recorded at 10. TAIWANESE CULTURE CENTER OF AMERICA, Cincinnati, OH 全美台灣文物資料中心 (2016-03-28) and in photo album 130. Taiwanese Culture Center of America, Cincinnati, OH.
- Own newsletter. The chapter publishes its own 鄉訊 — Newsletter of Taiwanese Association of Cincinnati 辛辛那提台灣同鄉會鄉訊 (recorded 2017-06-22); 高惠陽’s clubhouse proposal (see above) was published in this newsletter.
