Role in the Community
- TAGS is documented in TAH’s community story corpus as the Greater Seattle chapter of TAA — see TAIWANESE ASSOCIATION OF GREATER SEATTLE (TAGS), a community record dated 2015-12-09.
- A dedicated chapter history, written as community history by the community itself, is held at Brief History of TAGS 大西雅圖區台灣同鄉會簡介 (published 2017-10-04).
- An affiliated seniors’ group, the Senior Taiwanese Association of Greater Seattle (大西雅圖台灣同鄉松年會), is recorded at 大西雅圖台灣同鄉松年會 (record dated 2014-10-12), indicating an established elder-membership wing by the mid-2010s.
- Cross-community recognition: community-activity leader David Chen credits TAGS, alongside the UW Taiwanese Student Association and Seattle Formosan Christian Church, as foundational to his Taiwanese-language learning — see David Chen Taiwanese handbook interview.
- Seattle ecosystem: TAGS operates alongside the Greater Seattle community-center network — the 大西雅圖台美基金会 secured the Seattle Taiwanese Community Center (西雅圖台灣會館, opened 2004-02-28, donated by the 林正南 and 陳紹紀 families at a nominal $1/year rent) as recorded in the community memoir [[works/taiwaneseamericanhistory-org/ourjourneys30|Our Journeys #30]], with its inaugural magazine at [[works/taiwaneseamericanhistory-org/547-e8-a5-bf-e9-9b-85-e5-9c-96-e5-8f-b0-e7-81-a3-e6-9c-83-e9-a4-a8-e5-89-b5-e5-8|TAH #547 西雅圖台灣會館創刊號, 2005]].
- Shared community programming: the Greater Seattle Taiwanese American Community Scholarship Awards record ([[works/taiwaneseamericanhistory-org/7-taiwanese-american-community-scholarship-awards-pta-seattle|TAH #7, 2015-07-21]]) and the affiliated 大西雅圖台灣婦女會 (Greater Seattle Taiwanese Women’s Club, 2014-10-12) document the chapter’s scholarship and women’s-club layers.
- Sister-chapter context: the parallel 大鹽湖區台灣同鄉會 (TAGSL) is recorded at TAGSL, confirming the TAGS-name chapter pattern across the TAA network.
- 2021-02-28 — chapter president 林奕宏 led TAGS’ online 228 commemoration 「1947交響曲-二二八事件74週年線上紀念活動」, a partnership with 僑務委員會 and the Asiania platform featuring 大支, 老莫, and 楊舒雅’s theme song 「1947序曲」; 林奕宏: 「透過音樂去溝通理解,讓音樂成為時空的橋樑」 (TJJ 轉載中央社記者, 2021-02-27) — the chapter’s 228 programming builds on the 蕭泰然 1947 Overture tradition.
- 2023-11-07 — TAGS co-hosted the University of Washington screening of Vanessa Hope’s documentary Invisible Nation with the UW East Asia Center and the Seed Kite Foundation / UW Taiwan Studies Arts & Culture Program (Invisible Nation coverage), showing the chapter active in film/culture programming into the 2020s.
