The chapter appears in corpus records under both English renderings “Taiwanese Association of Syracuse” and “Syracuse Taiwanese Association” for the same 雪城台灣同鄉會.
Role in the Community
- The chapter is documented in the TAH story corpus from 2015-11-03: TAA 雪城台灣同鄉會.
- Chapter founding (corpus): the Syracuse chapter, led by 郭勝義, was one of 9 new chapters chartered during the 2nd TAA presidency of 許和瑞 (succeeding 鄭義和’s 34 chapters, bringing TAA to 43): Our Journeys 76 — 全美會早期史.
- 美東夏令會: after the first 1973 eastern summer institute (Camp Taconic), 王秋森 of the Syracuse chapter volunteered to organize the 1974 institute, starting the annual series that spread to美西/美南/中西部: Our Journeys 76.
- Regional mutual aid: 李俊廷 of Syracuse supported the neighboring Elmira (伊城) chapter’s eastern summer camps and North American softball/golf tournaments: Our Journeys 310 — 伊城同鄉會史.
- The chapter published its own newsletter, 鄉訊: Newsletter 鄉訊 by Syracuse Taiwanese Association 雪城台灣同鄉會 (recorded 2017-01-05).
- A chapter history was contributed to the corpus: History of Taiwanese Association of America — Syracuse (recorded 2017-10-04; also held as「雪城台灣同鄕會簡介」).
- Early sport organizing: the corpus history of North American softball records Syracuse (with Ann Arbor, East Lansing, Detroit) as an early campus where Taiwanese students played baseball/softball — the practice that grew into the 福爾摩莎杯 (F.C.) tournament series: 11. Syracuse also hosted visiting delegations in the Pittsburgh association’s road-games circuit (picnic/BBQ + softball meet-ups): same memoir.
- Reciprocal road-games record from the Pittsburgh side: the Pittsburgh association’s history lists 外訪 trips north to upstate New York including Syracuse (and Buffalo), each visit centered on a softball game — evidence of Syracuse’s regular inter-city circuit with Pittsburgh into the association’s near-half-century run: 胡民祥. The chapter’s founding/summer-camp history above is also held in English translation: Our Journeys 76 (English).
- Sibling Syracuse-area community record: the FAPA New York Syracuse chapter, FAPA (2015-11-24).
