The Taiwanese Student Association (TWSA) at The Ohio State University — known in Chinese as 俄亥俄州立大學台灣同學會 — is a student-led, service-oriented organization dedicated to supporting and connecting Taiwanese students on the Columbus campus. Its founding year is not documented on available first-party sources. The organization is primarily oriented toward students who have come from Taiwan to study at OSU, and all board members are actively enrolled OSU students.
Role in the Community
- Community memoirs record an Ohio State University Taiwanese Association as one of the two most typical examples (alongside UT Austin’s) of the wave of campus 台灣人社 that “sprouted up like bamboo shoots after a spring rain” around 1970 — founded by students who broke away from KMT-agent-monitored campus gatherings. See [[works/taiwaneseamericanhistory-org/ourjourneys76-eng|Our Journeys #76]].
- An Ohio State 大學 team fielded in the 1st Midwest Taiwanese Softball Tournament, 1973-06-16/17 at Purdue (11 teams). See [[works/taiwaneseamericanhistory-org/our-journeys-376|Our Journeys #376]]; the same memoir notes a Columbus 鄉訊 newsletter circulated in the Midwest community by the late 1980s.
- The current-era organization has its own corpus record: Newsletter 會訊 by OSU Taiwanese Student Association 哥城台灣同學會 — a 會訊 (newsletter) record dated 2016-09-20; note the corpus names it 哥城台灣同學會 (Columbus), consistent with the Columbus 鄉讯 tradition recorded in [[works/taiwaneseamericanhistory-org/our-journeys-376|Our Journeys #376]]. OSU also hosted the 2013 ITASA Midwest Conference — 2013 ITASA Midwest Conference at OSU.
- Modern-era campus activity is additionally recorded under the name TASA at OSU in the 2013 event roundups: Taiwanese Brunch with TASA at OSU and Moon Festival Showcase with TASA at OSU (both 2013). HOLD: corpus-era naming TWSA vs 哥城台灣同學會 vs TASA — treated as the same OSU Taiwanese student body’s evolving name, not separate orgs; continuity from the 1970s movement-era 台灣人社 remains unverified.
- Re-grepped 2026-09-22 (slice 09212352-27): new facts above absorbed from the 會訊 directory record and 2013 taiwaneseamerican-org event pages; Our Journeys 376 links already present.
- A third 2013-era activity under the TASA at OSU name is recorded: TASA at OSU Presents Dumpling Night — the club’s food-event format matches the parallel 2013 TASA chapters (Michigan crafts, Boston TAP brunch) in the same event roundups.
- Re-grepped 2026-09-23 (slice 09221100-17): fresh ZH+EN grep returns the same hit set already absorbed above (#76-eng, osu-taiwanese-student-association 會訊, our-journeys-376, index, 2013 TASA event pages); the only additional OSU mentions (Brian Yang interview, OSU Haters racism post on taiwaneseamerican-org) are not about the Taiwanese student body — nothing new absorbable.
- HOLD: the 1970s movement-era OSU 台灣人社 vs the current service-oriented TWSA (founding year undocumented) — continuity unverified; the 2013 ITASA conference confirms modern-era activity but does not close the 1970s→present lineage question.
- Re-grepped 2026-09-25 (slice 09240600-7): fresh ZH+EN grep 「俄亥俄州立大學台灣同學會/Ohio State/OSU」 returns the same hit set already absorbed (#76-eng, osu-taiwanese-student-association 會訊, our-journeys-376, works index, 2013 taiwaneseamerican-org pages; Brian Yang interview and racism post are not about the student body) — nothing new absorbable, HOLDs unchanged; verified saturated, SKIP-deepen.
- Re-grepped 2026-09-25 (slice 09250900-1): fresh ZH+EN grep — hit set unchanged (#76-eng, our-journeys-376, 會訊 record, works index, 2013 TASA event pages); the extra Ohio State mentions are incidental (Brian Yang’s Buckeye fandom, the OSU Haters racism post, and Grace Loh Prasad’s memoir publisher Ohio State University Press) — not about the Taiwanese student body, nothing absorbable. Saturated, SKIP-deepen.
