The Taiwanese Undergraduate Student Organization (TUSO) at the University of Wisconsin–Madison is a student organization focused on supporting Taiwanese undergraduate students and promoting Taiwanese culture to the broader campus community. Its founding year is not documented in available first-party sources. TUSO is listed as an affiliated student organization with UW–Madison’s International Student Services (ISS) office and is registered in the Wisconsin Involvement Network (WIN) directory.
Role in the Community
TUSO itself is not named in our memoir corpus, but it stands on a documented UW–Madison Taiwanese student-organizing lineage that the corpus preserves:
- The UW–Madison Madison chapter of the Taiwanese Association of America was among the 28 founding chapters (first president Li-yuan Huang) — Mu-Sheng Wu.
- Early (1960s–70s) UW Taiwanese students played a leading role in the Taiwanese independence movement, including the “UW Taiwanese independence movement” — Suy-Ming Sam Chou.
- The UW-M 台灣布袋戲團 (founded 1997 out of the UW-M 台灣同學會, with professor 陳清風’s scripts and puppets) performed 虎姑婆 at Milwaukee’s Moon Festival and annually at the Celebrate Madison International Festival from 2003 — 朱靜女.
