Role in the Community

Corpus record (memoirs are primary material):

  • 1. TSUNAH FOUNDATION 慈林教育基金會 — the foundation’s own TAH directory entry (published 2014-10-12, band B), the base record for this page.

  • 林衡哲 — memoir (band A). Records that when author Lin Heng-cherh returned to Taiwan to serve Menlo Hospital in 1997, Ng Li-pei (吳澧培) donated US$500,000 to Lin I-hsiung’s 《慈林基金會》 (alongside $500k to TUF); Ng later donated a further US$1,000,000 split between TUF and 慈林基金會 while chairing the 台灣會館筹备会.

  • 29. 台灣會館籌建回憶 — memoir (band A). Records 吳澧培 donating US$1,000,000 to 台灣人聯合基金會與慈林基金會 during the 台灣會館 drive, corroborating the ourjourneys301 account of Ng’s gifts to 慈林基金會.

  • 2022 — memoir (band A). Records Lin I-hsiung presenting 《慈林文教基金會》‘s “台灣社會運動史料中心” (Taiwan social-movement archives center) at an overseas community lecture, with attendees donating on the spot — showing the foundation’s archives mission active in the diaspora community.

  • Tsunah Foundation’s Youth Culture Tour of Taiwan — TA.org report (2011-10-31) of the foundation’s Youth Culture Tour of Taiwan, corroborating its programs for younger generations of Taiwanese Americans.

  • 林衡哲 additionally records that the 《慈林之夜》 events Lin I-hsiung later held in Taiwan were the extension of the overseas 《台灣文化之夜》 series run with the United Fund’s sponsorship — the cultural-program milieu out of which the foundation’s culture mission grew (re-grepped slice 09190130-5, 2026-09-20).

  • Press record (taiwanjustice.net harvest): 「撕開黑幕的光:海內外人權救援暨北美台灣之音聯展」, held by 慈林教育基金會 from 2024-06-08 through year-end — reviewing 1960s–1990s human-rights rescue (彭明敏 escape / 宗像隆幸’s forged Japanese passport) and paying tribute to 北美台灣之音, the phone-answering-machine “The Voice of Taiwan” founded in New York in 1977 by the married couple 張富雄 and 楊宜宜. Source: 海內外人權救援聯展 慈林教育基金會登場,向北美台灣之音致敬 (CNA, 2024-06-08) — the foundation’s diaspora-connected human-rights archives mission in practice.

  • The foundation has held the 228事件暨林家祖孫受難 memorial at 慈林紀念林園 (the Lin family cemetery) every year since 2006; in 2021 (41st anniversary) it cancelled public events for pandemic reasons and 林義雄 instead visited the grave privately with family — corroborated, with the foundation’s coordination role toward 義光教會, by 賴清德出席義光教會活動,林義雄赴林家墓園追思 (2021-02-28). A 2018 call for registration confirms the annual series: 228事件暨林家祖孫受難2018年追思紀念活動報名 (慈林教育基金會, 2018-02-02).
