Yes Plaza (夜市廣場)
Identity Snapshot
- Era: 2008–2020s (countdown events documented 2008–2014; “seventh year” stated for Dec 31, 2012 → first countdown ~2006)
- Geography: 1715–1747 Fullerton Rd. / Colima Rd., Rowland Heights, CA — the intersection at the heart of the east San Gabriel Valley Taiwanese district
- Core roles: community venue (taiwanese American) — commercial plaza whose night-market format and New Year countdowns became an institution
Record
- Yes Plaza 夜市廣場 New Year’s Eve Countdown: annual countdown concert + night market run by STC Management; 5th annual Dec 31, 2011 (“an iconic tradition for Chinese Americans in Southern California” — STC’s own words, thousands attending); 8th annual Dec 31, 2013 featured 電音三太子 (electronic-tridance) presented by STC顺天联合基金会 (STC Foundation) and free shuttles from Seasons Place. Blog record goes back to Dec 2008.
- Format: Taiwanese night-market food, live concert, karaoke, raffles — explicitly modeled on Taiwan night markets; Lunar New Year lantern festivals at STC’s Seasons Place drew “crowds of thousands” (2013).
- Legacy: the countdown institution migrated to STC Rowland Legacy (18991 Colima Rd., acquired Nov 2025 — see STC Management), where the OCLA STC Night Market runs weekends from July 31, 2026, and “Taste of Taiwan 2026” (Oct 2–11) brought 15 Taiwan night-market vendors to Rowland Heights for Double Ten — founder John Hsu (許惠欽), raised in Taiwan, “移民美國43年,” quoted: “這個夢想終於實現了” (this dream finally came true). Co-organizers: AI教育基金會, 台美餐飲產業經貿發展協會 (TUFBA).
- Rowland Heights itself: the east-SGV “Little Taipei” — dominant immigrant group from Taiwan from the late 1980s (LA Times 2007: “the dominant culture here is from Taiwan”; LA Times 1992 already documents the Colima Rd. Taiwanese commercial strip).
Historical Significance
The Yes Plaza countdown is a case study in how a property manager became a community institution-builder: STC didn’t just manage a plaza, it invented a civic ritual (New Year’s Eve, thousands strong) that made Rowland Heights’ Taiwanese identity publicly visible — night-market food, 電音三太子, and all — and the same operator is now staging a literal Taiwan night market (Taste of Taiwan 2026, ROC-115 Double Ten framing, balloons for “台灣及台美友誼”) on a 13-acre site it re-imagined as a night-market venue. Business infrastructure as nation-building infrastructure, in the SGV style.
