Role in the Community

  • His story is recorded in the TAHS community archive: “1498. C. C. Hsiao 蕭忠正” was published 2017-02-05 ([[works/taiwaneseamericanhistory-org/1498-c-c-hsiao-e8-95-ad-e5-bf-a0-e6-ad-a3-201702|TAHS #1498]]).
  • Founding story of 蜀湘園 (Empire Szechuan Gourmet): 郭忠豪’s community-history essay 550. 曼哈頓的辣椒味道:蜀湘園集團的故事 (2017-05) tells it in full: born 屏東, after NTU he joined the 1960s wave of graduate students to the US, earning an M.S. in nuclear engineering at New Mexico University (1969). He and his wife 曹淑蓉 decided their next move by flipping a silver dollar — heads meant New York. The couple settled on Manhattan’s Upper West Side and he worked in the nuclear-medicine section at Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Through friends 張亞鳳 (Misa Chang) and her brother 翁英俊 — both from Sanchong with food-service experience — the four co-founded a restaurant, named by 蕭太太 after New York’s “Empire State”: 蜀湘園 / Empire Szechuan Gourmet, opened 1976 at 97th St & Broadway. Business boomed and by late 1976 蕭忠正 left his research post at the medical school to run the restaurant full-time; the group grew into the 蜀湘園集團, operating nine Manhattan locations by 1992 (see also 蜀湘園集團). This confirms and enriches the “蜀湘園 — Funder” line in the Employment table.
  • Civic service in New York: listed among the 主席團副主席 in the 紐約蔡英文後援會成立大會 invitation roster (2019, 2019) and as a 理事 on the Taiwan Center-New York (台灣會館) 2019–2020 council roster (台灣會館-紐約) — the community record places him in NY Taiwanese civic leadership alongside his restaurant career.
  • 2026-10-08 (deepen-x slice 10070700-6): earlier “no corpus text” verdicts had swept content/ only — the five-dir grep surfaced the vault narrative (mystories550 full text + the two NY rosters above), now absorbed. Prior HOLD on the 謝正忠 name collision stands unchanged.
  • HOLD (name collision): a separate scientist C. C. Hsieh 謝正忠 (TAH #1420, Rice Ph.D. X-ray diffraction, Pfizer/Tyco) is conflated with this engineer C. C. Hsiao 蕭忠正 (NTU B.S., New Mexico M.S. nuclear engineering) in the source roster — see c-c-hsieh. Do not merge records or treat the taiwaneseamericanhistory-org roster link as a backlink to this page until the CJK identity is confirmed separate.
  • Re-swept 2026-10-01 (deepen-x slice 09261405-28) with a corrected ERE grep (-rlE '蕭忠正|C. C. Hsiao'; the 2026-09-21 probe used the broken 'A|B' form — | literal in BRE). Fresh full-vault grep: only own entry + works index + the [[people/c-c-hsiao]] roster link in taiwaneseamericanhistory-org; no new absorbable corpus text (SKIP-with-reason).
