Role in the Community
Community memoirs record Weng as a founding force behind the Taiwanese American Center of Northern California (北加州台灣會館) — Northern California’s first public Taiwanese American gathering place (“公厝”). He is named among the like-minded friends invited by 張信行 and 陳德輝 who founded the Fremont center in March 2003 ([[works/taiwaneseamericanhistory-org/ourjourneys53-eng|TAH #53: Our Journeys (EN)]]; ZH: Our Journeys), and again in the Center’s preparation-committee roster in 張信行’s account of the 2003 founding (Our Journeys (EN), ourjourneys24; ZH committee record: ourjourneys38).
The same memoirs credit him with the Center’s permanent-home campaign: together with Chun Chiu (邱俊邦) he learned that Canaan Church was outgrowing its building, which sparked the plan to share a large property; Weng led the site searches — repeatedly inviting 陳德輝, 張信行 and the author to inspect locations — that culminated in the March 2009 move to the 8,400 sq ft San Jose Golden Triangle location ([[works/taiwaneseamericanhistory-org/ourjourneys53-eng|TAH #53]]).
