Role in the Community

鄭翼宗是戰後台灣公費留美醫師中唯一的例外案例。黃勝雄醫師的台美人醫師史論述記載：台大醫師出國留學一律受國民黨政府指派監督、學成必須回台服務，「除了鄭翼宗醫師之外」——他在台大熱帶醫學研究所期間曾參加研究共產主義的讀書會、與共產黨人士過往密切；到美國後風聞國民黨特務清除異己、抓人關牢甚至處以死刑，遂自願投靠中國大陸（黃勝雄稱之為「另外一件悲慘的人生」）。此記載於 [[works/taiwaneseamericanhistory-org/ourjourneys285|TAH #285 台美人中的醫師（黃勝雄，2017/05）]]；到美時間（1949/11 初）見 謝娥追述文（台灣正義網）。
