Co-initiator of the Taiwan Economic Research Institution (TEDS, 1975). His own memoir with 杜新茂 — [[works/taiwaneseamericanhistory-org/ourjourneys282|TAH #282 台美人籌設「台灣經濟研究所」軼事]] (band A, primary material) — recounts that after 大同公司 came to the US seeking technology in 1975, the two drafted the 「台灣經濟研究所籌設綱領」, won the backing of Finance Minister 李國鼎, and pitched industrial leaders: 吳三連 pledged US$1 per ton of exported cement, 王永慶 offered 3-5 hectares of land, and 林挺生, 辜振甫, 吳金川 endorsed the plan. Fund-raising fell short and the institute was ultimately funded by 辜振甫’s 台泥; TEDS became one of Taiwan’s three economic-research institutions alongside 中央研究院經濟所 and 中華經濟研究院.
Corporate career: management science and industrial research; 23 years at Mobil Oil Company (美浮石油) in the US, described in his own memoir as Long Term Planning Manager (operations research) in HQ planning. HOLD: TAH Who’s Who table lists 美浮石油公司 副總經理 vs the memoir’s 企劃部經理.
