Dr. Hofu Wu (吳和甫博士)

Identity Snapshot

President of North American Taiwanese Professors’ Association (NATPA)(北美洲台灣人教授協會總會長) 2000

As NATPA 總會長 (2000), led the association’s 第二十屆年會 back in Taiwan — the second time NATPA held its annual meeting on the island — timed right after President Chen Shui-bian’s inauguration, with a visit to the president at the Presidential Office (source: Our Journeys 47, NATPA 回台年會). This continued the precedent NATPA set in 1990, when its first Taiwan-based annual meeting helped break the blacklist and prompted other overseas Taiwanese associations to follow.
Profiled in the community record: 143. Dr. Hofu Wu 吳和甫博士 and 12.
NATPA under his presidency was a nationwide association with regional chapters across the U.S. (recorded per chapter, e.g. NATPA Michigan chapter, New England, South CA); the association itself is recorded at NATPA 總會 and A brief history of NATPA.
Per Our Journeys 47, the 2000 回台年會 he led became the model (典範) for overseas Taiwanese associations returning to Taiwan for their annual meetings — 世台會、公共事務會、台灣人商會、醫師協會 all subsequently organized return meetings.
