Role in the Community
Jeremy Lin is a recurring subject — not just a mention — across the community record:
- Community biography: [[works/taiwaneseamericanhistory-org/publications293-2|TAH #296 — 台灣之子 福爾摩沙之光: 林書豪的成功故事]] (曾恆利 / Henry Tseng, 2013, biography), with Tseng’s companion essays on writing it: [[works/taiwaneseamericanhistory-org/mystories8|TAH #8 — 編寫新書之心路歷程]] and [[works/taiwaneseamericanhistory-org/mystories69|TAH #69 — 林書豪邁入美職籃的辛酸成功奮鬥史]] (2014). - Tribute art: [[works/taiwaneseamericanhistory-org/footstep-20|TAH #20 — A tribute to Jeremy Lin (向林書豪致敬)]] by artist Susan Hsiu-fang Liu (陳秀芳), 2015.
- Linsanity in the press: [[works/taiwaneseamericanhistory-org/photo-albums-historical-24|TAH #24 — Linsanity on the TIME cover]] (2012/02/27); taiwaneseamerican.org coverage through his rise: one step closer to an NBA contract, All Eyes on NBA Sensation Jeremy Lin, Friday Night Linsanity!, Dear Jeremy Lin…, and Warriors Asian Heritage Night post-game Q&A.
- Cultural footprint: Jeremy Lin: The Musical (a Journey to LinSanity); appeared with Johnny Hi-Fi’s Eric Hsu at Kollaboration SF; named among “Taiwan zhiguang” athletes in Taiwan zhiguang: athletes to root for.
- Asian-American advocacy: in [[works/taiwaneseamericanhistory-org/videos-171|TAH #171]], Lin said violence towards Asian Americans was “hitting differently” amid the pandemic — the community record of him as a voice on anti-Asian hate.
- Before the NBA (community press trail): Harvard-era coverage in Harvard Superstar on the B-ball Court (2009), the Warriors deal story Jeremy Lin Nearing Deal with Warriors (2010), a Boston fan’s bleacher broadcast (2010) and the community vote campaign Vote for Jeremy Lin for the Bob Cousy Award! (2010).
- Linsanity as community organizing: the documentary screened at community-organized events — Linsanity viewing party with TAP in LA (2012), movie night with TAP in SD (2013), viewing party in New York, documentary screening with TAP in NY, dinner + screening with TASC at UCLA, and a LA screening for Kaohsiung disaster relief; the film’s Sundance premiere is recorded in Linsanity documentary premieres at Sundance. The “Linsanity” producer Allen Lu appears in the community network around Stephanie Lin’s women’s-empowerment campaign.
- Cross-community discourse: Linsanity surfaced in broader TA conversations — Tiger Mom to Linsanity, a discussion in Flushing, NY (2012).
- Linsanity film production in the TA network: Brian Yang of 408 Films — one of the producers of the Linsanity documentary (opening 10/4/2013) — and filmmaker Timothy Tau, whose credits include The Jeremy Lin Effect 2: Linsanity, place the film inside the Taiwanese American creative community rather than as outside Hollywood product.
- Harvard years, from the stands: former Harvard running-back Cheng Ho met Lin while cheering at Ivy Conference home games and credits being “one of the sixth man” crowd; the interview is Former Harvard running-back is thankful for a lot this holiday, with Cheng celebrating “seeing his good friend Jeremy Lin make it into the NBA.”
- Linsanity and Asian-American admissions politics: the guest post “Passing” for White to get into Harvard pairs the “Linsanity” phenomenon around the Harvard grad with the February 2012 OCR investigation of Harvard/Princeton admissions discrimination against Asian Americans — Lin as the pivot of a community conversation about representation and merit.
- TIME 100: the taiwanjustice.net archive preserves the headline 「林書豪、曾雅妮 入選時代百大」 (2012-04-20) — Lin (with 曾雅妮) selected for TIME’s 100 most influential, a milestone recorded in the overseas-Taiwanese press trail: 台灣新聞 index, taiwanjustice.net.
- Reference point across TA culture: Lin recurs as shorthand for TA breakthrough in community essays and interviews — Blacklava’s 20th anniversary essay (“Go Jeremy Lin! Go Justin Lin!”), Michelle Kuo’s interview naming him among the TA alumni who pivoted from technical degrees to creative paths, Jason Wu fashion coverage grouping him with Wu and Eddie Huang as second-generation inspirations, the Arthur Chu essay listing him among the visible Asian figures “who reminded us that people out there who looked like us could be something,” and Marilyn Fu’s Kickstarter offering a limited-edition Jeremy Lin T-shirt she designed.
- Family-origin record (opinion piece, attributed): 余杰, 「林書豪是心中有愛,還是心中有錢?」 (taiwanjustice.net, 2020-04-09) preserves — as the author’s account of NYT reporting — that uncle 林繼宗 stated the Lin family is Taiwanese: ancestors migrated from Fujian to Taiwan in 1707 (林繼明/林繼宗 the eighth generation), the grandfather worked in the South Seas during the Japanese era and went into hiding during 228, and the maternal grandmother was a doctor who came to Taiwan in 1949. The piece is a critical opinion column on his China stance and Beijing首钢 stint; treat its characterization as attributed commentary, not community fact.

From the record
- 2020-04-09 — Yu Jie column indexed on taiwanjustice.net: the 余杰專欄 category page, page 2 (2022-08-09 Wayback snapshot), lists 「林書豪是心中有愛,還是心中有錢? ◎ 余杰」 among the column’s featured entries — the index record for the critical opinion column already summarized above as attributed commentary: 余杰專欄 page 2, taiwanjustice.net. Note: the sentence offered as this page’s quote candidate is that column’s title — the author 余杰’s question about Lin, not Jeremy Lin’s own words — so nothing is added under Quotes.
- 2013-08-17 — 台灣演義「哈佛小子 林書豪」 indexed in the overseas-Taiwanese press trail: the 台灣演義 category page (2024-02-24 Wayback snapshot) lists 「2013.08.17【台灣演義】哈佛小子 林書豪 ◎民視」 (posted 2013-08-19) among the show’s episode index, corroborating the 台灣演義 feature already cited above as TAH #113: 台灣演義 index, taiwanjustice.net.
- 2025-09-15 — dedicated「Jeremy Lin」tag page on taiwanjustice.net: the site maintains a Jeremy Lin tag; at the 2025-09-15 Wayback snapshot it displayed “No posts to display” — recorded as the state of that press-trail tag at that date, not as evidence of no coverage (individual articles, e.g. the 2012 TIME 100 headline above, are indexed under other paths): Tag: Jeremy Lin, taiwanjustice.net.
