Joshua Chin
Story
The record opens with his own sentence, as a college student in 2010: “From my freshman year in high school, I sought to find a way to break into the computer security world and to develop valuable skills to aid in my quest to defend cyberspace.” He had just been chosen, from hundreds of statewide competitors, for the first California Cyber Camp — held on the Cal Poly Pomona campus where, sixteen years later, students would still be talking about the professor who “100% cares about his students.”
Between the camp and the classroom: a bachelor’s in Computer Information Systems, then a master’s in Information Assurance, both at Pomona; the founding of a student cybersecurity club that became an HTCIA chapter; high-school outreach work for his own department; and a career as co-founder of Net Force. The student who was trained to defend cyberspace now trains the people who will.
Identity
- English: Joshua Chin
- Chinese: not asserted — the romanization “Chin” fits several family romanizations; no source seen states a Chinese name. A confirmed gap, not a guess.
- Geography / era: Pomona / San Gabriel Valley, California; 2007–present
- Core roles: faculty, Computer Information Systems (Cal Poly Pomona); cybersecurity practitioner (co-founder, Net Force)
- Community tie: unresolved — the Pomona/San Gabriel Valley geography sits on the community’s student-pipeline map, but no archive source ties the Chin family to the Taiwanese-American community. This page records the public record only.
