Lisa T. Su (蘇姿丰)

Lisa T. Su (蘇姿丰, born 1969) is the CEO and President of Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), a Sunnyvale, California-based semiconductor giant. She is one of the most powerful women in technology and a prominent figure in the Taiwanese American community.

Education

Su was born in Taiwan in 1969 and immigrated with her family to the United States. She attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) for all of her degrees:

Her PhD focused on semiconductor technology, specifically copper interconnect process technology at 0.22 micron nodes — a critical advancement in semiconductor manufacturing.

Career at IBM

Before joining AMD, Su developed copper interconnect process technology at IBM while working at 0.22 micron nodes. This work was critical to advancing semiconductor manufacturing and was a key area of research at IBM’s research laboratories.

AMD Leadership

Su joined AMD and rose through the ranks to become CEO and President of the company. Under her leadership, AMD has become a major competitor in the semiconductor industry, particularly in processors and graphics cards.

Her appointment as CEO of AMD was a landmark moment for both the technology industry and for Asian American women in leadership positions.
