Role in the Community
Her own 2015 community interview (Maggie Hsu — Co-founder of Mochi Magazine, TaiwaneseAmerican.org, band A memoir) is the primary record: she co-founded Mochi Magazine in 2008 with fellow Taiwanese American Stephanie Wu, motivated by the lack of Asian American representation in teen media; the idea originated in 2004 and the inaugural issue featured Brenda Song as cover star. Community formation ran through Taiwanese American student organizations — her older brother was in ITASA, she herself found belonging in the Taiwanese Cultural Society (TCS) at Phillips Exeter Academy (which she calls her “second family”), then Harvard’s TCS and ITASA, where organizing Winterfest for ~300 was her first lesson in large-scale project management. She spent a year at Taipei American School in Taiwan, the experience she credits with connecting her to her Taiwanese heritage. professionally she cold-emailed Tony Hsieh in 2013 and became his Chief of Staff at Downtown Project (listed in TAH Who’s Who record 905. Maggie Hsu, 2016/03).
Community-organizational records: she served as a Taiwanese American mentor for SPARK Accel, the volunteer-run virtual accelerator for Taiwanese American entrepreneurs (SPARK Accel, listed alongside Kevin Lin, Patrick Lee and Holly Liu as a founding-community mentor); that record also credits her as co-founder of Gold House, which the TAH Who’s Who entry does not mention. She appears as a signatory in the Pew Research Center-era Taiwanese American community statement (Taiwanese American statement).
HOLD: conflict in Mochi founding date — her interview says the concept originated in 2004 (pre-senior prom) while the TAH profile dates the co-founder role from 2008 (inaugural issue); both kept, not merged.
Family
- Older brother — member of ITASA (per her 2015 interview)

- Mochi Magazine surfaces in the TaiwaneseAmerican.org movement corpus via the Formosa Betrayed film coverage: Anna Wu, credited there as Mochi Magazine’s creative director, is also a TaiwaneseAmerican.org staff member — evidence Mochi and TA.org shared personnel in the 2009 community-media wave (Formosa Betrayed — Giving Voice to History via the Big Screen).
