Role in the Community

林蘇妙香 (1942–2016) is held in the TAH community record as a Taiwanese American who「bravely fought many illnesses in her life time with positive attitude」([[works/taiwaneseamericanhistory-org/ff290|TAH #290 memoir]], 2016-06-07). Her life was commemorated in the video profile「37. The Beautiful Life of Mrs. Miaw Shang Su Lin」([[works/taiwaneseamericanhistory-org/video37-the-beautiful-life-of-mrs-miaw-shang-su-lin|TAH video #37]], 2016-06-10), and her Who’s Who entry was posted as [[works/taiwaneseamericanhistory-org/whoswho1107|TAH #1107]] (2016-06-24), shortly after her passing.

The 台美史料中心 March 2021 newsletter reprinted Ken Lee’s memorial essay 不怕死的「病西施」(“One Brave Woman”, translated by Chung Lin Hsu), which recounts that her marriage to |林宣緒 Adrian Lin was arranged while the two lived half-way around the globe from each other — she in Taiwan, he in the United States.

Ken Lee’s essay (李彥禎, bylined Ken Lee in the English edition) is not new to 2021: it first appeared in the TAH story corpus as [[works/taiwaneseamericanhistory-org/mystories72|不怕死的病西施 (mystories #72)]] on 2014-09-05, two years before her passing, in the English edition as One Brave Woman; the newsletter reprinted this same piece.
