Chicago Taiwanese cultural movement (1987): Yang was the lighting director (主掌燈光) for 「咱的鄕土咱的歌」, the major Taiwanese song-and-dance gala staged by the Chicago Taiwanese Cultural Promotion Association (芝加哥台灣文化促進會) on Nov 21, 1987 at Downers Grove High School, before an audience of about a thousand. The production record — 林中’s account later preserved in the TAH our-journeys series (167. 咱的鄉土，咱的歌–芝城台灣文化促進會公演記實, Band A community history) — lists him alongside producer 邱伸彥, director 陳淸風, and stage-set designer 王文隆, documenting him as a technical backbone of Chicago’s Taiwanese cultural scene in addition to his nuclear-engineering career. The same record notes the gala’s funding: 慈淵基金會 subsidized NT$2,500 of production costs and, afterwards, its manager 廖述宗 (廖述宗) doubled the donation to support the association’s expansion into nationwide activities.
