出生於台灣台北，五歲從父親陳昭良習小提琴，母親則幫忙伴奏，是如此的音樂氣氛伴著琦瑤長大。在台灣參加過多次小提琴比賽並獲獎無數。及長隨家人移居美國洛杉磯。1980年師從名教授Alice Schoenfeld門下習琴。不久獲獎學金到纽約茱麗葉音樂學校就讀，在名小提琴家Margaret Pardee的指導下獲音樂學士與碩士學位。
