Friends of Taiwan-Greater St. Louis (聖路易台灣之友會)

Identity Snapshot

  • English: Friends of Taiwan-Greater St. Louis
  • Chinese: 聖路易台灣之友會
  • Era: Contemporary
  • Geography: Taiwanese American community
  • Core roles: Community organization (TAH directory)

Friends of Taiwan-Greater St. Louis is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting educational and cultural exchanges between Taiwan and the United States. The organization also works to improve the health and welfare of Taiwanese and United States citizens. It operates for charitable, educational, religious, and scientific purposes, serving as a grassroots bridge between the two communities.

Role in the Community

  • The St. Louis chapter has its own story record in the TAH corpus, published 2017-04-11 (Friends of Taiwan—Greater St. Louis story); full text stays in the vault.
  • It is the Greater St. Louis chapter of the parent Friends of Taiwan, whose national newsletter 台灣之友會通訊 is also in the corpus (Newsletter of Friends of Taiwan).
  • The parent body’s longtime president, Ted Anderson, is profiled twice in the corpus as a supporter of the TA community: interview record 322 (Mr. Ted Anderson, President of Friends of Taiwan) and a 2014 美洲台灣日報 interview 仗義為台灣 (仗義為台灣 interview record).
  • St. Louis-area TA community records in the corpus give context for the chapter’s milieu: TAA-STL 聖路易台灣同鄉會 (TAA-STL), the St. Louis Taiwanese youth chamber orchestra STYCO (record 39, 2015-11-13 — educational/cultural activity in the same community, STYCO), the St. Louis Taiwanese Presbyterian church history by 張理美 (record 305, brief history), and record 286 — the Taiwanese Presbyterian Church of Greater St. Louis, the first new church building erected by Taiwanese Americans in the U.S. (1991) (record 286), with its own newsletter in the corpus (Newsletter of TPC of Greater St. Louis).
  • HOLD: corpus records name the parent 台灣之友會/Friends of Taiwan generally; only the dedicated 2017 story record ties the organization to Greater St. Louis specifically.
