The North America Pastel Artists Association (NAPAA) was founded in 1997 in New York by Master Pastelist Jason Chang (張哲雄) and his friends to promote the art of pastel painting within the Asian American community and beyond. NAPAA has held annual exhibitions since its founding and has sponsored major international competitions, including the Taiwan Center First and Second Annual International Pastel Open Juried Exhibitions in New York (2005–2006) and an International Pastel Artists Invitational Exhibition at the National Taiwan Arts Education Center in Taipei in 2007. The association provides pastel art classes in Flushing, Queens and has cultivated partnerships with prominent art organizations such as the Pastel Society of America, Allied Artists of America, and Art du Pastel en France. NAPAA has played a significant role in raising awareness of pastel art among Asian American communities and fostering cross-Pacific cultural exchange between the United States and Taiwan.
