The Taiwanese American Association Greater Cleveland (克里夫蘭 台灣同鄉會) is the Greater Cleveland chapter of the Taiwanese Association of America (TAA, 全美台灣同鄉會), the national umbrella organization for Taiwanese American community associations across the United States. The chapter serves the Taiwanese American community in the greater Cleveland, Ohio area.

Role in the Community

The Cleveland chapter was one of the 28 founding chapters of the Taiwanese Association of America (TAA, 全美台灣同鄉會), with 翁讀龍 (Tu-lung Weng) listed as its founding president in the TAA founding record ( TAA 全美台灣同鄉會克里夫蘭分會; ZH counterpart in 克里夫蘭亞太節活動). The full English roster of all 28 founding chapters with each chapter’s founding president — Cleveland (Tu-lung Weng) among them — is recorded in the TAA founding memoir ([[works/taiwaneseamericanhistory-org/ourjourneys76-eng|Our Journeys #76, English ed.]]; ZH sibling ourjourneys76). TAA’s founding mission — promoting friendship, inter-chapter coordination, and advocacy on Taiwanese social, economic, cultural, legal, and human-rights issues — frames the chapter’s role in Greater Cleveland.

Cleveland’s Taiwanese institutional ecosystem also includes parallel organizations documented in the corpus: NATMA’s Cleveland chapter (NATMA 北美洲台灣人醫師協會克里夫蘭分會 — described as a birthplace of NATMA’s early 1983–1990 activity), NATPA’s Cleveland chapter (NATPA 北美洲台灣人教授協會克里夫蘭分會), the Formosan Music Fund of Cleveland (克里夫蘭心聲合唱團), the Taiwanese Foundation of Greater Cleveland (Taiwanese Foundation of Greater Cleveland), and a FAPA Cleveland chapter — a former FAPA president credits 北俄州的游祥修醫師 and FAPA’s Cleveland members’ long-term stewardship for a local FAPA milestone ([[works/taiwaneseamericanhistory-org/ourjourneys228|Our Journey #228]]).

TAA itself was incorporated in Washington D.C. on 1971-08-13 as The Formosan Club of America, Inc. (directors 黃際鑫、鄭義和、陳隆豐), the legal shell under which the Cleveland chapter and the other 27 founders operated (克里夫蘭亞太節活動). The NATMA birthplace memoir situates Cleveland’s organizing milieu around the Cleveland Clinic / Kaiser Permanente hospital systems and Dr. 周烒明’s circle (周烒明、許世模、陳克孝、陳哲雄、許明雄、梁俊華), who first built a local physicians’ association there before expanding it nationally (NATMA 早期故事).

Cross-chapter fellowship is recorded from the Pittsburgh side: the Pittsburgh chapter’s founding history recalls westward visits as far as 克里夫蘭 and Columbus in Ohio, every gathering built around softball games — Cleveland repeatedly a destination on the early TAA inter-chapter circuit (2017).

Corpus re-scan 2026-09-25 (slice 09250800-1): fresh ZH+EN grep re-run — hit set identical to the prior scan (cleveland-chapter-taa, ourjourneys76/76-eng, ourjourneys74, natma/natpa cleveland chapters, taiwanese-foundation-of-greater-cleveland); no new Cleveland-chapter material. SKIP-deepen.

New this round (slice 09260317-8): 林靜竹’s NATPA memoir recalls that in early 1990, ahead of the first NATPA return-to-Taiwan annual meeting, the 克里夫蘭 chapter (among 新英蘭、密西根、中北部) was asked by phone to have its 分會長 and 理事 rally members — 100+ members plus 50 family ultimately attended (10); the Cleveland chapter’s mobilization capacity shows up even in cross-org annual-meeting logistics.
