Identity Snapshot

- Chinese: 台美律師協會
- Era: Contemporary
- Geography: Taiwanese American community
- Core roles: Community organization (TAH directory)
The Taiwanese American Lawyers Association (TALA) is a community-service based legal organization serving the Southern California Taiwanese American community. It strives to provide necessary assistance and guidance to its members. The organization was founded in 1994 by Mao-Ching Huang, who rallied more than ten Taiwanese American lawyers to establish it.
Role in the Community
- Founding and first presidency (1994): Mao-ching (David) Huang 黃茂清 — documented in the TAH photo record 1994.
- Community-activity record: the 2019 TAH story 台美律師協會的活動 documents TALA’s community activities.
- Taiwan Center Foundation: corpus records state that TALA lawyers drafted the charter for the tax-exempt Taiwan Center Foundation, which would hold sovereignty over the Taiwan Center and steer its development — positioning TALA as legal backbone for the Taiwan Center project. Per the same record (台美律師協會的活動, 2019), the foundation was to serve as a coordination center for Taiwan community groups and an activity venue for the community; TALA ran a founding-member (創會會員) drive with donations from US$1,000 up to US$100,000 per person, installments allowed, equal rights and duties per member, alongside patron firms (贊助公司行號) and volunteer roles. HOLD: the record’s own EN translation caps founding-member donations at “a maximum of $10,000” while the Chinese text reads 最多不超過十萬元 ($100,000) — the cap is not auto-merged.
- Dating of the charter work: the same appeal, preserved in Our Journeys 29 中文版 (台灣會館成立大會紀念冊 section), records the 台灣會館籌備會’s first meeting on 1998-02-19 and its 成立大會 on 1998-06-12 — placing TALA’s charter-drafting effort for the Taiwan Center Foundation in the 1998 founding window, alongside the 1994 TALA founding.
- Coalition activity in the greater-LA civic circle: TALA is listed among the co-initiating groups of the 2021 South California 僑界 joint statement supporting Taiwan’s participation in the WHA — 2021 WHA 聯合聲明共同發起單位名單 (2021-06-16).
- Named members appearing in the TALA directory record Taiwanese American Lawyers Association: San John Huang, Simon Lin.
- Also profiled in the community journeys anthology Our Journeys 29 (EN) and its Chinese counterpart Our Journeys 29 中文版; the directory/bibliographic record itself is 1. Taiwanese American Lawyers Association (TALA) 台美律師協會.

- Corpus re-grep 2026-09-25 (slice 09240500-11 / 09250800-8): hit set identical to absorbed records (activities-of-taiwanese-american-lawyers-association, taiwanese-american-lawyers-association, ff318, ourjourneys29 +eng, works index); the only extra hit (taiwanjustice 2025-02-16 袁智慧 article) matches on the string TALA inside its wayback archive_digest hash, not content — false positive; no new corpus material; verified saturated.
