Taiwanese American Professionals San Francisco (TAP-SF) is a chapter of the Taiwanese American Citizens League (TACL), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit run entirely by volunteers. One of the largest TAP chapters, TAP-SF includes over 2,500 young professionals in the Bay Area. The chapter organizes programming centered on professional development, cultural engagement, and community service. TAP-SF also produces the Taiwanese American Cultural Festival (TACF), the West Coast’s largest Taiwanese American cultural celebration, which has been held annually since 1993 and draws over 10,000 visitors each year to San Francisco.
Role in the Community
Corpus records place TAP-SF inside the documented TAP (台美菁英協會) chapter network of the Taiwanese American movement:
- The parent TAP network is itself recorded in the corpus as 「1. Taiwanese American Professionals (TAP) 台美菁英協會」, 2014-10-12 (TAH TAP overview; bibliographic record only).
- 2015-07-24 — the chapter’s own community-investment record 「24. 舊金山台美菁英協會獎學金 TAP-SF Scholarship Award」 documents its scholarship program for the next generation ([[works/taiwaneseamericanhistory-org/24-taiwanese-american-professionals-san-francisco-chapter-tap-sf-scholarship|TAH #24]]; bibliographic record only).
- The chapter’s own directory entry is held as a corpus work: 「10. San Francisco Chapter / TAP 台美菁英協會舊金山分會」, 2014-10-12 ([[works/taiwaneseamericanhistory-org/san-francisco-chapter-tap|TAH #10, SF chapter]]; bibliographic record only).
- The chapter-network scholarship convention extends beyond TAP-SF’s own record: a parallel 「35. 西雅圖台美菁英協會獎學金」 record documents the Seattle chapter’s scholarship program ([[works/taiwaneseamericanhistory-org/35-taiwanese-american-professionals-of-seattle-scholarship-award|TAH #35, Seattle scholarship]]; bibliographic record only), and the LA chapter maintains its own e-newsletter in the corpus (TAP-LA eNewsletter) — the same community-investment and communications practices TAP-SF runs locally.
- Sibling chapters appear in the same corpus — its own chapter record sits alongside dedicated records for Boston ([[works/taiwaneseamericanhistory-org/boston-chapter-tap|TAH #4]]), D.C. ([[works/taiwaneseamericanhistory-org/d-c-chapter-tap|TAH #5]]), Seattle (Seattle chapter), Orange County (OC chapter; OC TAP activities), Los Angeles (LA chapter), New York (NY chapter), Philadelphia (Philadelphia chapter), San Diego (San Diego chapter), Austin (Austin chapter) and Atlanta (Atlanta chapter) — situating TAP-SF as one node of a national professional-chapter movement, with the national coordination documented in TAP national quarterly newsletter and the TAP overview.
- The Bay Area community-press corpus documents its recurring service and social programming: a Community Service Series (Hayes Valley Farm gardening builds), holiday volunteering with Meals on Wheels of San Francisco (1,100 gift bags stuffed the prior year), and member socials like the TAPpy Hour and the Academy of Sciences “NightLife” event (TAPpy Hour, Bahtzang workshop hosted by TAP-SF, TAP-SF × Macy’s Shop for a Cause for APA students), 2011–2012.
