Taiwanese American Professionals Washington D.C. (TAP-DC) is a chapter of the Taiwanese American Citizens League (TACL), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit run entirely by volunteers. TAP-DC serves the Taiwanese American community in the greater Washington D.C., Maryland, and Virginia area. The chapter is 100% volunteer-run and community-fueled, with programming that includes TAPpy Hours, cultural events, community service, career panels, and advocacy-oriented events in collaboration with the Taiwanese American Lawyers Committee. TAP-DC hosted the 2024 TACL National Convention.
Role in the Community
- The corpus holds the historical record of the parent name 台美菁英協會 (Taiwanese American Professionals): 1. Taiwanese American Professionals (TAP) 台美菁英協會 (published 2014-10-12).
- CORPUS SCAN (2026-09-22): the 台美菁英 chapter-family record contains a dedicated D.C. chapter work — TAP 台美菁英協會華府分會 (published 2014-10-12) — direct corpus evidence of a Washington D.C. chapter under the 台美菁英協會 name, alongside sibling chapter records TAP Boston, TAP Austin, and TAP-OC 橙縣分會.
- HOLD: lineage conflict — this page’s directory description lists TAP-DC as a TACL chapter, while the corpus places the TAP (台美菁英協會) name in a separate chapter family: TAP D.C. 華府分會, TAP-OC 橙縣分會, TAP general, TAP Seattle 獎學金, TAP-SF 獎學金. The 2014 D.C. chapter record strengthens the 台美菁英 side but does not resolve the conflict; both claims kept.
- CORPUS AMENDMENT (2026-09-20 re-scan): the earlier claim “no corpus record mentions a D.C./DMV chapter by name” is superseded — taiwaneseamerican.org carries DMV/TAP-DC activity records: 2013-07 (band A, byline Kristina), Lunar New Year Dinner with TAP-DC in Arlington, VA, TAP-DC at Fiesta Asia Street Fair, Dress for Success with TAP-DC — documenting volunteer-run community service, cultural, and career programming in the DMV from 2013 onward, consistent with the directory’s program list (TAPpy Hours, cultural events, community service, career panels).
- CORPUS SCAN (2026-09-21): the DMV record extends further into social/professional programming — Snowboarding and Skiing with TAP in DC, LINSANITY screening with TAP in DC, Advanced Degree Workshop with TAP in DC — the career-mentoring dimension (advanced-degree workshop) corroborating the directory’s “career panels” claim.
- CORPUS SCAN (2026-09-24): the DMV record reaches back to 2009–2013, showing continuous volunteer programming predating the 2013 service event — a joint ToyDrive charity drive with NAAAP-DC and other groups (ToyDrive at Eyebar, 2009-12), a New Year New Friends TAPpy Hour (TAPpy Hour, 2010-02), a Sakura-viewing social (Sakura Viewing, 2012-03) and a professional workshop on networking techniques and skills (Professional Workshop, 2013-08) — the TAPpy Hours / cultural / career-panel mix the directory describes was already running by 2010.
