The Taiwanese Association of America Greater Philadelphia (大費城 台灣同鄉會, TAAGP) is a regional chapter of the Taiwanese Association of America (TAA), the national umbrella organization for Taiwanese American community associations. The chapter serves the Taiwanese American community in the greater Philadelphia, Pennsylvania area.

Role in the Community

  • The Philadelphia chapter was one of the 28 founding chapters of the national TAA (全美台灣同鄉會), with 李儒英 listed as its founding chapter president — see the TAA founding history memoir 2014 (published 2014-12-21).
  • Long-running community service record: the chapter participates annually in the International Spring Festival in Philadelphia — 30. International Spring Festival 大費城台灣同鄉會參與國際春季園遊會 (2016-05-25) and TAA Greater Philadelphia Chapter 大費城臺灣同鄉會 (2018-05-09), the latter paired with a Friendship Concert at Lansdale, PA (Greater Philadelphia Chapter).
  • Chapter co-hosts the Taiwanese American Community Scholarship Awards for the Greater Philadelphia area (大費城區, 2015-07-21); the award was already running by 2013, recorded in the nationwide scholarship round-up 303. 台美人社區獎學金專輯 alongside chapters from Houston and the Kansas NATWA chapter.
  • Oral-history interviews in the TAH series document recent leadership: 185. President of TAAGPC – 謝己 James Jii Shieh’s Journey (2024 chapter president; see 謝己) and 187. Advisor of TAAGPC – 王博文 Powen Wang’s Journey (chapter advisor; see 王博文).
  • Inside the community the chapter is also remembered for its language-practice debates: Hakka member 李常吉 recalls twenty-plus years attending TAA Greater Philadelphia meetings and summer camps, and argues for multilingual gatherings rather than Hokkien-only (2016, band A memoir).
  • The chapter’s own brief history is held in the corpus as a dedicated work: 17. 大費城台灣同鄉會的簡介 / Brief History of TAAGP (project-3-17-eng, 2017-10-18); a bibliography-only duplicate exists at project-3-17.
  • The chapter’s own activities and commemorations are held as dedicated corpus records: a chapter activities record (TAAGP 大費城台灣同鄉會, 2015-12-10), 2019-01-20, and the chapter’s 228 commemoration ( 2018-03-05).
  • Neighboring chapter-family orgs in the corpus: the area’s wider Taiwanese organizational fabric includes 大費城台灣客家同鄉會 (2015-12-23), 台美工商大費城會 (Taiwanese Chamber of Commerce of Greater Philadelphia, record), NATWA’s greater-Philadelphia chapter (record), and the NTU alumni chapter whose first president was Dr. 李彥輝 Franklin Lee ( 1986-04) — consistent with 李常吉’s account of Hakka participation in chapter gatherings; organizational relationships to TAAGP not stated in the record, not merged.
