Accomplishment

  1. President of Taiwanese Association of America, Greater Philadelphia Chapter (大費城台灣同鄉會會長) 1988-1989, 2004

Role in the Community

  • UFAI founding member, 1966. The movement memoirs place 王博文 among the 台灣獨立聯盟 (UFI) delegates — with 陳以德、羅福全、蘇金春 — at the 1966-06-18 Philadelphia talks that merged UFI and the 台灣問題研究会 (FASG) and resolved to found the 全美台灣獨立聯盟 (UFAI) on 1966-07-04. The merger had been brokered via 「台灣青年社」‘s 辜寬敏 during his U.S. tour; the talks drew delegates from nine regions, among them 蔡同榮、王秋森、賴文雄 (Los Angeles), 莊秋雄 (Kansas), 陳唐山 (Oklahoma), 張燦鍙 (Houston), and 鄭自才 (Baltimore), and the alliance elected 陳以德 chairman and 周烒明 central chairman with twin grassroots chapter-building and enlightenment missions. Most members, 王博文 included, served as secret members (秘密盟員) ([[works/taiwaneseamericanhistory-org/ourjourneys81|TAH #81 周烒明, UW–Madison 台灣學生史]]).
  • East-coast movement networker. The memoirs record him as a very active participant (「王博文、許和瑞、許富淵等人亦非常積極參與活動」) in the early 台獨 movement circles around Philadelphia ([[works/taiwaneseamericanhistory-org/ourjourneys81|TAH #81]]).
  • Patron of community employment. 周烒明 memoir: after three years at a private university, 范希寬 entered Air Products in 1972 through 王博文’s introduction ([[works/taiwaneseamericanhistory-org/ourjourneys33|TAH #33]]).
  • Encyclopedia record. His own TAH Who’s Who entries are archived at 1675. Powen Wang 王博文 (2017) and 123. Powen Wang 王博文 (2018-10-02).
  • Keeper of summer-camp history. At the 38th 美東台灣人夏令會 (2007, UMass Amherst) he sat on the historical panel for the first 1970 美東夏令會 and contributed collected materials to 徐頌鵬’s history of that camp; the record notes he joined the 1970 冬令會 at Poconos but not the 1970 summer camp itself ([[works/taiwaneseamericanhistory-org/ourjourneys268|TAH #268 徐頌鵬, 回憶第一屆美東台灣人夏令會]]).
  • TAAGPC 會長 1988–1989, 2004; later chapter advisor — oral history published 2025-08-05, where he recounts his leadership journey and vision for empowering future generations ([[works/taiwaneseamericanhistory-org/video-187|TAH #187]]).
  • Philadelphia friendships that outlasted the movement’s founding decade. 徐頌鵬 recalls him as 「四十多年前在費城就認識的朋友」at the 2007 historical panel — first-person corroboration that his Philadelphia network of the 1960s merger era stayed connected through the camp movement ([[works/taiwaneseamericanhistory-org/ourjourneys268|TAH #268]]).
  • Builder of the movement’s first directory. In 1969, after the Philadelphia branch of 台獨聯盟 took over the second edition of the 北美台灣同鄉通訊錄 (Directory of Formosans in North America, 5,331 names), the English name list — by then processed on a mainframe — was 王博文’s responsibility (「由黃掁文(即王博文)挑大樑」), with branch members doing verification and shared handwriting of the Chinese entries (周祖堯 contributing most there); he also designed the blue-and-white cover ([[works/taiwaneseamericanhistory-org/ourjourneys58|TAH #58]]).
  • English translations corroborate the above. The English transcripts of the two key memoirs confirm his UFI-delegate role at the 1966-06-18 Philadelphia merger talks (“UFI’s Edward Chen, Fu-Chen Lo, Powen Wang, and James Chin-Chun Su”; [[works/taiwaneseamericanhistory-org/ourjourneys81-eng|TAH #81 (EN)]]) and the doctor’s-bag/free-pears recollection of the early Philadelphia circle (“Wang Po-wen… often brought baskets of pears along”; [[works/taiwaneseamericanhistory-org/ourjourneys57-eng|TAH #57 (EN)]]).
  • Early Philadelphia circle. 羅福全’s memoir recalls him as two years his senior, arriving in the U.S. carrying his doctor father’s house-call bag instead of buying a new suitcase, and, living in a rural farmhouse with pear trees, bringing baskets of free fallen pears to share with the student circle ([[works/taiwaneseamericanhistory-org/ourjourneys57|TAH #57 羅福全, 帶香蕉去留美的時代]]).
