Role in the Community
Houston community founder. Named among the early Houston Taiwanese whom 林振榮, 陳淮崇 and 林榮長 convened in early 1970 to found the Formosan Club — deliberately non-political on paper under White Terror, renamed 台灣同鄉會 in 1975 — organized despite KMT consulate surveillance of community dinners (05; cf. 08). Per 廖明徵’s memoir the founding circle convened at 林榮長’s home (1969-12-25 first meeting) comprised 莊勝義, 黃和義, 郭鐘樑, 郭嘉明, 余文貴, 何通雲 and 陳懷崇, with 闕文榮醫師 as first president; the 1975 rename to 台灣同鄉會 was proposed under president 莊承業, who also founded 德州台灣人信用合作社 that year (08).
