Role in the Community

  • Movement-theatre record: at the 1983 Taiwanese American Conference/East Coast she played 陳淑子 (Chen Su-jen) in the stage play “Mending the Broken Net” (補破網) dramatizing the Chen Wen-chen murder, alongside director 陳明楷 and 康泰山 as Chen Wen-Chen — recalled in the memoir Our Journeys 8 (EN); see also Professor Chen Wen-Chen Memorial Foundation.
  • Her TAH encyclopedia profile is preserved as Our Journeys 76, which links her page and the Chen Wen-chen Memorial Foundation.
  • Husband 方菊雄 (Jyu-Hsiung Fang, professor) has his own corpus records: 186. Prof. Jyu-Hsiung Fang, WHO’S WHO 714. Jyu-Hsiung Fang, and profile piece 11).
  • As NATWA president (1999–2000) she commissioned the book-length collection of the 婦女信箱 advice column (long written by 阿香 and carried in 台灣公論報); the editor’s memoir recalls her request to compile the year’s columns into a volume — Our Journeys 79.
  • Early movement record: recalled in Our Journeys 58 as one of the Manhattan, Kansas staff who sold movement books (alongside 陳希寬, 莊秋雄, 方菊雄 and others) in the UFAI-related book drive whose accounts totalled US$2,069 in receipts.
  • As NATWA president she also began issuing the NATWA newsletter and created a “Networking Committee” (聯手組), and in the 2000 and 2004 Presidential elections she led NATWA delegations back to Taiwan to participate in election campaigns — Our Journeys 60 (EN), NATWA history; the Chinese edition Our Journeys 60 preserves the committee name 聯手組 and names her alongside 葉寶桂 for the 2000/2004 返臺助選 delegations.
  • The 1983 play record exists in Chinese as well: Our Journeys 8 (ZH) — 黄靜枝演陳素貞, with the narrator and wife 黃美惠 (elena-ling) also acting; same event as the EN memoir cited above.
  • Media/cultural work: screenwriter Marilyn Fu recalls producing a radio show with Jean Fang about Peggy Hsiao — 蕭美琴’s mother, “who has such an interesting life story” — material Fu says informed her play Sisterhood — Interview with Marilyn Fu.
