Role in the Community

  • Taiwanese American screenwriter of The Sisterhood of Night (dir. Caryn Waechter, released in theaters/VOD 2015-04-10), a modern re-telling of the Salem witch trials about cyber-bullying; she wrote in the story of three generations of a Taiwanese American family, inspired by her own. Recorded in the community interview Meet Marilyn Fu – Screenwriter for The Sisterhood of Night (TaiwaneseAmerican.org, 2015-03-20, byline Ho Chie), and earlier in her 2012 Kickstarter-campaign interview.
  • Speaker at the 2015 NATWA II convention panel “Showcasing Ten Years of North American Taiwanese Women Artists,” alongside Jennifer Chow, Tsuann Kuo, Karen Lin, and Victoria Linchong — NATWA 2015 record.
  • Related cast link: Catherine Huang record (the teen lead whose role Fu wrote).
  • The film adapts Steven Millhauser’s short story of the same name; its cast includes Louis Ozawa Changchien (Predators), Hudson Yang (Fresh Off the Boat) and David Chen — all of Taiwanese heritage — alongside Willa Cuthrell as the teen lead Catherine Huang. Fu stated the film has “absolutely nothing to do with race/ethnicity,” but that the diverse casting lets Taiwanese American audiences see themselves on screen. Absorbed from the band-A community interview Meet Marilyn Fu (2015-03-20).
