Role in the Community

  • Her own TAH encyclopedia record is bibliographic: 07.
  • Community record enters the vault mainly through the family: husband 廖述宗 Shutsung Liao was the founding president of NATPA (北美洲台灣人教授協會). NATPA honors him with a research award: 13. NATPA Professor Liao Shutsung Research Award 廖述宗教授研究獎金 (2015).
  • A Chicago memoir records that before the Chicago chapter had a hall, the family’s University of Chicago home served as the meeting place for 台灣人同鄉會 activities and for the founding of NATPA — the household itself was community infrastructure (Collection of Prof. Shutsung Liao).
  • 張瑞雄’s memoir places the family in the 台中/豐原 gentry network: 廖述宗’s mother was geology professor 林朝棨’s sister, and 廖五湖 (豐原三傑) belongs to the same kin circle ([[works/taiwaneseamericanhistory-org/our-journeys-350|Our Journeys #350]]).
  • Faith formation (東京神學院、芝加哥大學神學院) fits the memoir record of the couple’s role in 芝加哥台灣基督長老教會 circles; no dates conflict found.
