Role in the Community

  • The corpus history of the Taiwanese American Foundation (33. 台美協進會的歷史; English version 33. History of TAF) names Cho a founding member of the Midwest Formosan Christian Foundation (photo of MFCF founders incl. Carol Cho and Bill Cho, circa 1990) and one of the six first-board directors who passed the by-law renaming MFCF to TAF in Chicago on October 18, 1980 — alongside 莊明哲, 張信義, 陳植哲, 洪宏謨, and 楊忠正 — after which TAF launched its first youth programs.
  • In retirement he gave back as a teacher in the community’s lifelong-learning programs: the Irvine 台灣長老教會 (ITPC) 長青教室 curriculum lists Cho as the lecturer for 「人生下半場」 (02).
  • He also wrote from inside the movement: his own memoir of the 1994 TAF youth summer camp, 「意外的收獲」, is preserved in the corpus (2016), complementing the 1981 camp memoir written by a camper’s parent.
  • Name-collision note: the roundtable in the 2024 TAF–Hong Konger community event report A Tale of Two Islands: Fire-ex Ignite Community names a “Pastor William Chou” of the Formosan United Methodist Church — a different person (clergy, not the engineer/nuclear-safety specialist Cho 卓甫良). Not merged.
  • The English TAF history names Cho and Dr. James “Jim” Chen as the founders of MFCF, with origins in the mid-1960s wave of Taiwanese graduate students who settled in the Midwest after their studies — HOLD: origins 1966 (History of TAF) vs founding 1973 (楊遠薰); plausibly retreat origins 1966, formal MFCF founding 1973. The same account adds that Cho served as Executive Director of MFCF/TAF from 1973 to 1987, before his fourth presidency (33. History of TAF).
  • Family involvement in the foundation’s first fund-raising program after the October 18, 1980 rename: his second daughter Esther 卓慧文 gave a fund-raising piano recital at DePaul University, Chicago, upon her 18-year high-school graduation, raising $750 for the TAF Fund; wife Carol 林秋菊 is named among the women who launched the Junior/Junior-High art and musical programs under Dr. 張信義’s vision (33. History of TAF).
  • The corpus holds a dedicated biographical record for Carol Cho 林秋菊 alongside Cho’s own (01), confirming the family’s standing as a documented pair in the TAH collection.

Family

  • Wife: Carol 林秋菊

The memoir lists the presidential line as 莊明哲 (1980–82), 張信義 (1983–85), 鄭天助 (1986–88), 卓甫良 (1989–91) — HOLD: fourth-term start-year conflict, 1987 (楊遠薰 2021 article) vs 1989 (camp memoir); not auto-merged.
