Taiwan Hakka Association for Public Affairs in North America (HAPA-NA) is the first Hakka Taiwanese organization in North America with explicit political advocacy goals. Founded in 1991, it was established to support the Hakka movement in Taiwan by championing mother-tongue liberation, cultural revitalization, democratic participation, and grassroots civic engagement. The organization has actively supported Hakka-language education, Hakka-language broadcast media rights, and political candidates who advocate for Hakka interests, including involvement in events such as the Dapu Incident. HAPA-NA has published periodicals including 《台灣客協會訊》, 《新個客家人》, and 《台灣客家人新論》. It continues to serve as a strong overseas advocate for Taiwanese Hakka communities and the broader cause of Taiwan’s normalization as a nation.
