It is listed as a chapter affiliate on the national Taiwanese Association of America (TAA, 全美台灣同鄉會) website.

Timeline / Role in the Community

  • 1973-09 — founded as 北加州台灣同鄉聯合會 with English name Northern California Formosan Federation (NCFF); the seven founding member groups included 協志會, four hometown associations, and two Presbyterian churches (the churches later withdrew from the member roster once the federation was established). Per the Bay Area community-history memoirs 350. 美國舊金山灣區台灣基督教會史料簡介 and 357. 舊金山灣區臺灣人的社團活動與家國意識之形成.
  • 1979 — federation officers co-founded a Credit Union that helped newly employed co-ethnics buy homes; it ran about a decade before winding down (same memoirs).
  • 1978-04 — together with Bay Area churches and 協志會 formed the “Joint Committee of Taiwanese American for 1980 U.S. Census”, urging Taiwanese to write in “Taiwanese American” on the census — a milestone in identity formation; committee members included 張富美, 張瑞雄, 黃介山, 黃景生, 張村樑, 陳隆, 謝鐐暲.
  • 1997 onward — after Rev. 宋泉盛 (Samuel Song) became Bay Area church pastor, church–community solidarity deepened; he spoke at the federation’s 30th-anniversary event (2003-01-25), “台灣人民面臨抉擇的時刻”.
  • 2003 — English name changed to Taiwanese American Federation of Northern California (TAFNC) after the 30th anniversary; 30th-anniversary memoir in the federation’s own festschrift 《三十而立》 (石清正, 〈聯合會三十年回顧〉).

  • HOLD: source footnote 23 writes the post-2003 acronym as “NAFNC” while the main text says “TAFNC” — not auto-corrected.
  • Corpus re-grep 2026-09-25 (DEEPEN-X slice 09240600-1): works hit set identical to already-linked records; new absorbable material came from the TJJ article corpus (51st-annual convention video addresses, 2024-02 圖書館228策展), now absorbed above.
