The Taiwanese American Student Association (TASA) at Vanderbilt University is a registered student organization serving the Taiwanese and Taiwanese American community on campus. The organization is formally recognized by Vanderbilt’s Student Center for Belonging and Communities (SCBC), which lists TASA among its advised cultural organizations, and holds an official registration on the university’s Anchor Link platform.
Role in the Community
HOLD: name-collision — “TASA” in the TAH story corpus denotes the Taiwanese American Seniors Association of Southern California (founded 1979; built the Flamingo Garden senior apartments in El Monte 1984–1988), not this student organization. See Our Journeys 173 — TASA Seniors Association. The corpus’s student-movement analogue is ITASA (Intercollegiate Taiwanese American Students Association), documented in 46. History of ITASA. No corpus record was found for the Vanderbilt chapter itself.
Corpus evidence for the generic collegiate “Taiwanese American Student Association” name (campus chapters, not this one) — the reason this slug keeps attracting non-Vanderbilt hits:
- 2019-03-18 / 2019-08-23 — Eric Tsai, Vice President of the Rutgers Taiwanese American Student Association, in his own account of the UN4HK organizing (From Wild Lilies to Sunflowers and I’m Taiwanese American — Why I Stand by Hong Kong).
- 2020-05-19 — Vivienne Chang, previously president of Junior TASA (JTASA) before joining WashU’s TSO (From Taiwanese Californian to Taiwanese Missourian).
- 2010-08-17 — Ho Chie’s launch of JTASA (Junior Taiwanese American Student Association), the high-school feeder tier of the same student movement (Introducing the Next Chapter of the Taiwanese American Student Movement: JTASA; also summarized in The Taiwanese American Story: A History in Progress, 2011-05-02).
- Undated memoir record — an anonymous student president of a campus TASA describes the movement’s online-life friction (Twitter Wars).
- 2017-09-16 — 楊遠薰 recalls founding a TASA at the University of Maryland “十餘年前” and being branded 台獨 for the “TA” name during the island’s blue-green polarization (台美人的未來(上) ◎ 楊遠薰).
- PTASA (Princeton Taiwanese American Student Association) appears in the ITASA headquarters/princeton-branch roster (Our Journeys 356). These are name-sharing sibling chapters held as context; none is the Vanderbilt organization, and the Seniors-Association collision above still governs. Where a sibling chapter has its own directory page, that page is the canonical record: TASA at UMD College Park, Princeton TASA, Rutgers TSA, TASA at Georgia Tech, UMD Taiwan Student Association. HOLD: possible duplicate identity — Vanderbilt TSSA (范德堡大學臺灣同學會) is a second TAH directory entry for Vanderbilt Taiwanese students (recorded as a Facebook group) while this page describes a registered TASA chapter under SCBC/Anchor Link. No source states whether these are the same body under two names; not merged.
