Role in the community (memoir-sourced, deepen-x 2026-10-09)

  • Organizer, 台灣會館籌備會 (1987) — 莊承業’s memoir of the Houston Taiwan Community Center founding records that in September 1987, amid the Houston real-estate slump, 李雅彥「花很大力氣」organized the 台灣會館籌備會 when the push to buy a clubhouse had stalled, chairing its 章程組 (with 謝貴分、蔡丁財、楊朝諭); he also served on the 餐會組 (with 楊朝諭), and with 蔡丁財 completed the committee charter draft. See [[works/taiwaneseamericanhistory-org/ourjourneys233||TAH #233 回顧休士頓台灣人活動中心的成立]].
  • TAA-Houston president & center promoter (1988) — at the 台灣會館 inauguration ceremony (April 9, 1988) the TAA Houston presidency was handed to him; that year he 「絞盡腦汁,一心一意全力推動建館工作」, reportedly going door-to-door like a monk (「像苦行僧似地」) soliciting donations from the Taiwanese shops on Harwin Drive, and in July 1988 wrote 「台灣人活動中心近況報告及感言」 in the 鄉訊 (Taiwanese Journal). See [[works/taiwaneseamericanhistory-org/ourjourneys233||TAH #233]] (EN: |ourjourneys233-eng).
  • Facilitator of the language-school building search (1990) — when 莊承業 decided to find a permanent home for the 台灣語文學校 on his own rather than via a preparation committee, 李雅彥 discussed it with him and introduced him to the real-estate agent Michael Richker. See [[works/taiwaneseamericanhistory-org/ourjourneys233||TAH #233]].
  • Co-founder, 休士頓台灣語文學校 (Houston Taiwan Language School) — 蔡淑媛’s founding memoir records the chance encounter at 頂好商圈’s 「小美冰果室」where his wife |葉錦如 introduced him; his first words to her were 「咱著愛來辦一間學校」— he rallied the community (“他振臂一呼,因緣由此聚合”) to organize, teach, and fund the school, telling her 「錢的問題嘸免煩惱,大家手ńg bih起來作伙打拼」. • NATPA member & donor — 林靜竹’s memoir of NATPA’s first homecoming annual meeting (Chicago 1990 planning) lists him among donors: 會員李雅彥兩千元 toward the ~$80k drive for the 1990 Taipei年会. See [[works/taiwaneseamericanhistory-org/ourjourneys47||TAH #47 北美洲台灣人敎授協會首度回台召開年會的經緯和歷史意義]] (林靜竹, 2014-10).
