1994年宋如音在70位國際青年鋼琴家的激烈競爭中脫穎而出，贏得紐約Pro Piano年度藝術家大獎，並在隨後的七年中由Pro Piano出版四張CD。第一張德布西的「十二首練習曲」就獲得「國際鋼琴季刊」(International Piano Quarterly, Spring 1998)等雜誌的最高評價。2001年發行的「江文也日本時代鋼琴作品集」更包括「五月的組曲」等多首世界首度錄音作品，引來全球樂壇的注目。1996年宋如音榮獲棕櫚灘國際鋼琴邀請賽(Palm Beach International Invitation Competition)的冠軍，並在紐約的林肯中心首演，獲得好評。1998年得到巴考爾國際鋼琴大賽的第五名，及2000年美國鋼琴家協會的Christel Award等多項榮譽，是一位具有獨特風格與藝術品味的現代演奏家。
