The NATMA Foundation is a distinct tax-exempt nonprofit corporation entity of the North American Taiwanese Medical Association (NATMA), founded in 1995. Its primary focus is organizing International Medical Missions to Central America and South America, where volunteer doctors and supporting treatment teams of Taiwanese descent residing in the U.S. provide medical and dental treatment and consultations to thousands of patients per trip. Notable missions include a 51-member team to Panama in September 2006 (serving over 3,000 patients), a 64-member team to Guatemala in February 2007 (serving over 4,000 patients), and a 50-member team returning to Panama in September 2007 (serving over 8,000 patients). The Foundation also promotes the science and art of medicine, international medical and intercultural exchange, and encourages its members to participate in international medical work. These missions represent goodwill between the Taiwanese American community and the people of the countries served.
