Role in the Community

  • Southern California organizing record: 吳西面 (Sei-Mi Wu) is memorialized as the first 南加州台灣人聯合基金會會長 in 1985 ( 1985).
    • HOLD: conflict on founding year — the 1985 first-president record vs the 2017 “30 Anniversary” issue (implying 1987) vs the 簡介’s stated 1986. Not merged.
  • Flagship event 台灣文化之夜: annual program books held as 80. 台灣人聯合基金會-台灣文化之夜年刊; 30th-anniversary issue Taiwanese United Fund (2017-09).
  • 228 commemorative work: held the 228 68th-commemorative “Spiritual Day of Taiwan” concert with 優社 (Taiwan Elite Alliance) in Arcadia, CA on 2015-02-28 (3. The Spiritual Day of Taiwan 2-28 68th Commemorative Concert).
  • Long-running cultural ministry: the 台灣名家演奏系列 (Great Performers From Taiwan) concert series ran under TUF (南加洲台灣人聯合基金會) from 1991 through 2013 across many seasons (1. Great Performers From Taiwan by TUF, 1991–2013).
  • Philanthropic standing: the Taiwan Center opening memoir records 吳佩利 (Li Pei Wu) donating one million dollars to the Taiwanese United Fund and the Chilin Foundation before taking the Taiwan Center preparatory-committee convener role ( The Opening of the S. CA Taiwan Center).
  • Founding record (self-published 簡介, 2017-06): TUF was founded in 1986 by 吳西面 (Sei-Mi Wu) and 林衡哲, “LA-area nonprofit” dedicated to preserving and promoting Taiwanese culture in the US (294. 南加州台灣人聯合基金會的簡介).
    • HOLD: three-way founding-year conflict — the 1985 first-president record (270), the 簡介’s stated 1986, and the 2017 “30 Anniversary” issue (implying 1987). Not merged.
  • 林衡哲 served as TUF’s second president (做TUF第二任會長), during which he commissioned the birth of 蕭泰然’s three immortal concertos ( 林衡哲); 蕭泰然’s C小調鋼琴協奏曲 was completed in 1992 at TUF’s invitation (339).
  • Cultural Night flagship (Montebello, CA): program runs documented for 1992–2002, 04, 06, 11–12, 17 (33. Taiwan Cultural Night by TUF) — extends the annual-program record beyond the 年刊/anniversary issues already cited.
  • 台灣名家演奏系列 opening: the series began 1992 with 胡乃元’s violin recital under 吳澧培’s sponsorship; later artists include 林昭亮, 陳毓襄, 陳麗嬋, 劉孟捷, and the 2016 三十周年 曾宇謙 violin recital (294 簡介).
  • 228 commemoration continuity: the “Spiritual Day of Taiwan” 2-28 concert with 優社 ran 2015, 2016, and 2017 in Arcadia (68) — corroborates the 2024 “17屆” account; also 鄭智仁醫師 concert/lecture in El Monte 2003-02-18 (63).
  • Other TUF-presented programs: 台灣作家演講系列 (2015, 35); 台灣之美—亞洲之心國際巡迴畫展 (2017, 14); community service: Los Angeles River Clean Up with 優社 (5).
  • Sister chapter: 芝加哥台灣人聯合基金會 (Taiwanese United Fund, Chicago, 22) contributed special funding to the 世界台灣人美術展覽 (256).
  • Also appears in corpus records as 美國台灣人聯合基金會 (co-host credit, 第161回世界台灣文化論壇 2024-12, already cited above).
  • Wider concert-programme corpus: TUF also presented 楊呈偉「尋找心家園 / Finding Home」 in Los Angeles on 2005-07-09 (2005) and placed a Culture Night advertisement in San Gabriel on 2017-09-09 (2017) — both bibliographic records, no narrative detail.
  • Re-check (deepen-x 2026-09-19 / 2026-09-20 / 2026-09-21 / 2026-09-22 / 2026-09-23 slice 09230317-1): corpus re-grep hit set adds only the two thin bibliographic records above (concerts24, culture-night ad); the earlier new records were already absorbed; remaining hits (270 吳西面, 1134, concerts3, concerts1, 80 年刊, ourjourneys29-eng) were already cited. 1985-vs-1987 founding-year HOLD stands.
  • Re-check (slice deepen-x-slice-09231000-1, 2026-09-25): fresh grep (台灣人聯合基金會 / Taiwanese United Fund / TUF) — hit set identical to records already cited (270 吳西面, 1134, concerts3, photo-albums-activities-80, ourjourneys29-eng, concerts1); no new absorbable material. SKIP-with-reason (saturated).
  • 林衡哲’s own institutional history: 07-2017 — the second president’s retrospective covering the fund’s first decade (1986–1996); its stated span 1986–1996 corroborates the 簡介’s 1986 founding date and is the strongest single source on the founding year (the 2017 “30 Anniversary” issue implying 1987 remains the outlier). HOLD on the 1985 first-president record (270) vs 1987 anniversary issue stands; 1986 is now supported by two independent TUF-published sources (294 簡介 + 301).
  • Early multi-arts programming (pre-Cultural Night flagship): 北美洲台灣畫家聯展, presented by 台灣人聯合基金會, 1991-11 (593); 台灣文化巡迴演講團 co-presented with 台灣出版社 (43); 北美洲台灣人文化節 1992 co-presented with 台灣出版社 and 太平洋郵購中心 (44) — the 文化節’s San Diego edition featured 蕭泰然小提琴協奏曲世界首演 by TUF (南加州台灣人聯合基金會) on 1992-11-13 (12), placing the concerto’s world premiere in TUF’s 文化節 context alongside the 1992 completion record (339).
  • Cultural Night record widened: 第15/16屆 年刊 for 2000, 2002, 2006 held as 577. TUF台灣文化之夜 第15 16屆 2000 2002 2006, complementing the 80 年刊 and 1134 anniversary issue already cited.
  • 2012 Cultural Night edition: TUF hosted the 2012 TUF Cultural Night on 2012-09-15 (4:30pm–9:30pm) at the Pacific Palms Conference Resort, Industry, CA, theme 「Made in Taiwan – Food, Ecology and Technology」, keynote Luis Ko (I-Mei Foods, Co. Ltd. 社長, also CEO of the I-Mei Environmental Protection Foundation), with Rhapsody Trio performance and 「Made in Taiwan」 booth exhibitions (Cultural Night with Taiwanese United Fund, taiwaneseamerican.org, 2012-09-15) — adds the 2012 edition to the Cultural Night run (the 33 record lists 1992–2002, 04, 06, 11–12, 17).
  • Sister chapters beyond Chicago: 南佛州台灣人聯合基金會 (Taiwanese United Foundation of South Florida, 41) is a separate bibliographic record; TUF also presented the multimedia program Abt: art, business & technology (2) — bibliographic records, no narrative detail.
