History

ITPC was established around 2012 as a Taiwanese-language congregation for immigrants and retirees in the Southern California area, particularly in Irvine]] and Laguna Woods Village]]. The church found a home through a partnership with Geneva Presbyterian Church, which opened its chapel for ITPC’s worship services. The community consists largely of Taiwanese-born retirees who relocated to the area after retiring from careers across the United States.

The church has maintained a continuous presence for over a decade. The site lists a 2023 515紀念冊 (Drive PDF) — that is the booklet title, not a claim the church is 515 years old. The congregation is about 120 members; Sunday worship in 台語.

In August 2025, Rev. |Li Fu-Jen (李輔仁牧師) began his pastoral ministry at ITPC, succeeding Rev. Chen Meihui (陳美蕙) and Rev. Zhang Xuanxin (張宣信), who had served the congregation in various capacities over the years.

Leadership

Current Pastor: Rev. Li Fu-Jen (李輔仁牧師)

Rev. Li Fu-Jen began his pastoral ministry at ITPC in August 2025. He brings a unique background that bridges technical engineering and theological education.

Early Life and Conversion: Li Fu-Jen was born into a non-religious but loving family as the sixth of seven siblings. His father was a self-made businessman who studied at Waseda University’s electrical engineering department in Japan. His mother was a daughter of the 台北六張犁黃家 (Huang family of Liuzhangli), a prominent Taiwanese Christian family. Despite the family’s lack of formal religious affiliation, both parents provided a nurturing environment with considerable freedom.

As a child, he occasionally attended Sunday services and youth fellowship at Taipei Chengjian Christian Presbyterian Church (台北建成基督長老教會) with his elder sister. His conversion occurred during his second year of high school at Tamsui High School, when a primary school classmate convinced him to attend a summer camp — where, on the final day, he responded to the pastor’s call and committed his life to Christ. His deeper faith reflection began during his final year at Tunghai University, as he sought God’s guidance for his uncertain future.

Engineering Career: After university graduation, Rev. Li spent 15 years working as a mechanical engineer at an aerospace company in the United States. During this period, his faith underwent a profound transformation. Through God’s mercy, he re-evaluated the meaning and purpose of his life and ultimately responded to God’s call to full-time ministry.

Theological Training: Beginning in 1997, Rev. Li pursued theological education at evangelical seminaries, including 正道神學院]], Fuller Theological Seminary]], and Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary]]. He was ordained in 2004 after completing seminary.

Ministry Career: After ordination, Rev. Li served in evangelical churches and organizations in Los Angeles, then moved to Houston, and returned to Los Angeles, always within evangelical church contexts. In August 2025, he came to ITPC to serve as pastor, describing it as another experience of God’s special grace.

Family: Rev. Li’s wife is a fifth-generation Christian who met and married him at a church in Los Angeles. Before and after Rev. Li entered ministry, she has been his greatest helper — dedicating herself to family, supporting his seminary studies through her own work, and exercising spiritual gifts in musical ministry. Her calling has taken her to Houston, Los Angeles, Taiwan, China, and Eastern Malaysia for music ministry.

They have two adult children: their daughter works at a kindergarten in Houston, and their son works in Tokyo, pursuing his passion for animation. Though separated across three cities, the family maintains a weekly video call every Saturday morning for fellowship and prayer.

電腦教室 (Computer Class)

A non-religious community service offering digital literacy training for seniors, taught primarily in Taiwanese with Chinese and English technical terms.

Features:

  • No tuition — only a small registration/materials fee

Notable volunteer: 胡宏仁 (Dr. Hu Hongren) holds a Master’s in Chemistry from the University of North Texas and a Ph.D. in Chemistry plus a Master’s in Computer Science from Purdue University. He served as a chemistry professor, computer science professor, and department chair with over 35 years of university teaching experience. He is now an emeritus professor at Louisiana State University Southeast and volunteers with ITPC and Tustin Presbyterian Church on IT infrastructure.

長青教室 (Senior Class) — Flagship Lecture Program

The 長青教室 (Senior Class) is ITPC’s flagship educational program — a weekly lecture series for seniors featuring talks by professors, doctors, engineers, pastors, and community leaders. With 100+ regular attendees, it has become a cornerstone of the Taiwanese community in Orange County.

春風合唱團 (Spring Wind Choir)

A 50-member choir performing Taiwanese folk songs (台灣歌謠). The choir regularly performs at ITPC services, Senior Class programs, and community events. Led by 黃幸惠 and 張佩仙, the choir is an integral part of ITPC’s worship and cultural ministry.

拿娥美事工 (Nao Mei Ministry)

An elderly care ministry in partnership with the Nao Mei Foundation (拿娥美基金會), providing:

  • Home-delivered senior meals (送餐)
  • Transportation services (交通服務)
  • Day care center support (日照中心)
  • Home care assistance (居家照護)
  • Long-term care for seniors (在宅長照)
  • Dementia caregiver training (失知者照顧訓練)

關懷小組 (Care Group)

A Tuesday care group providing holistic support for members, including spiritual care, emotional support, and practical assistance.

日文班 (Japanese Class)

A Japanese language class led by 劉純真, serving members interested in learning Japanese.

姊妹會 (Sisters’ Fellowship)

A women’s fellowship group led by President 梁淑慧 and Vice President 張銀花, with active members including 黃美琇, 林霜瑜, 林淑華, 鍾瑞美, 吳瑋玲, and 蘇玉容.
